About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learn to look at all other beings with the eyes of compassion.

ABOUT ME

I am an openhearted person who is looking to see some beautiful places, connect with generous people, and have a wonderful time! In life, I aim to not have a plan but rather, a general direction. I'm really into moving with the wind and having blind faith in where that path takes me. I would be so thankful to find kind people to host me as I travel. I am so open and excited to learn from my hosts and I hope that I can share some things with them also. In the end, I hope to spend my life being impacted and thankful for beautiful people and I hope to be some sort of light for those that cross my path as well. I want to find some good company to share my days on this earth with and I want to be good company for others.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm working for wildness, kindness, and to have a really great time!!

"Soft front but a strong spine."

"Slow down, you're moving too fast. You've got to make the moment last. Kickin down the cobblestone, lookin for fun, and feelin groovy... Life I love you. All is groovy."

"Your sucesses hold your shoulders high. Your losses pull your chest inward. You hold your sadness in your throat, your anger in your jaw, and your fear in your belly. Your happiness rices and falls in your chest. Love rolls in and out on the tides of your breath. It's all there, all the time. You can release the parts that hurt if you want to."

"The lessons we learn from the wild become the etiquette of freedom. We can enjoy our humanity with its flashy brains and sexual buzz, its social cravings and stubborn tantrums, and take ourselves as no more and no less than another being in the Big Watershed. We can accept each other all as barefoot equals sleeping on the same ground. We can give up hoping to be eternal and quit fighting dirt. We can chase off mosquitos and fence out varmints without hating them. No expectations, alert and sufficient, grateful and careful, generous and direct. A calm and clarity attend us in the moment we are wiping the grease off our hands between tasks and glancing up at the passing clouds. Another joy is finally sitting down to have coffee with a friend. The wild requires that we learn the terrain, nod to all the plants and animals and birds, cross the streams and ridges, and tell a good story when we get back home.
And when the children are all safe in bed, at one of the great holidays like Fourth of July, New Year's, or Halloween, we can bring out some spirits and turn on the music, and the men and the women who are still among the living can get loose and really wild. So that's the final meaning of "wild" - the esoteric meaning, the deepest and most scary. Those who are ready for it will come to it. Please do not repeat this to the uninitated."
[I love Gary Snyder!]

"wild: ordering of impermanence."

"Whatever nourishes you, whatever you can give yourself to, trust that."

"Remember: man is not our enemy. The only thing worthy of you is compassion - invincible, limitless, unconditional. Hatred will never let you face the beast in man."

on kind speech: "words can travel across thousands of miles. may my words create mutual understanding and love. may they be as beautiful as gems, as lovely as flowers."

"We can appreciate the elegance of the forces that shape life and the world, that have shaped every line on our bodies - teeth and nails, nipples and eyebrows. We also see that we must try to live without causing unnecessary harm, not just to fellow humans but to all beings. We must try not to be stingy, or to exploit others. There will be enough pain in the world as it is."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did a bike tour through Arkansas where I couchsurfed! I also spent some time meeting and sharing company with some other couch surfers in th area that I ended up not staying with. There is the most beautiful little community down there! So thankful I got to be a part of it!
I also surfed while traveling on the west coast of the USA for a month and a half! So many beautiful souls!

Interests

I love a lot of things! And I rarely say no to trying new things... especially when I am traveling. I hope to spend my life looking at a new and different horizon everyday. While I mean that literally, I also mean a new horizon of activities, company, and interests.
I am an animal lover. I currently work in the pet care industry. I love horses and am hoping to get more exposure with them very soon.
I am well versed in environmental issues. I recently received my degree in Environmental Studies from DePaul University in Chicago. I feel the most comfortable in natural spaces, especially the backcountry. I am very interested and invested in environmental issues. Self-sufficiency, eco villages, waste reduction, alternative energy, hiking, trail work, homesteading, etc. are all things that I want to spend my life involved in because I think they are worthy, honest, and really cool! I'm into minimalism and voluntary simplicity. I would really love to live out of a backpack for extended periods of time.
I really just want to explore. I want to meet like minded people and work immersed in the natural world and in partnership with the land.
I find value in people - in community, in spiritual grounding, silence, simplicity, love, and laughter. The more I can share these values with others, the happier I will be.
Basically, I'm really down to work on valuable projects and see what happens. I'm a super flexible person. I am very adaptive and a good communicator. I want to share my talents with those that I get the chance to meet and I want to soak up all the love and talent that I can from others.
I love making things. Art, construction projects, decoration, gardening, cooking, playing with dirt. Basically, I'm a really hands on person... so if you have some things around the house you'd like repaired, I can help with that!
I like reading, poetry, live music, dancing, good conversation, good brew, theraputic essential oil use, found object creations, biking, working to become fluent in the language of nature and other living beings, hiking, walking, watching grass grow, spirituality, skydiving, danger, spontenaity, kindness, generosity, and beauty.

Music, Movies, and Books

Don't know much about television or movies. The only access I have to those is Netflix and that is used rarely.
I love a lot of books. Environmentalism. Sprituality. Buddhist environmentalism. Books about plants, animals, activities, hobbies, walking.
I like most books I read. But I find it immensely challenging to finish a book... almost all the ones that I own have bookmarks halfway through. I'll finish em evenutally. ;)
I love music. I'm really into seeing shows! Slow traveling tunes are a classic go to. Bluegrass, reggae, instrumental. Anything that was made through the genuine expression of the artist's heart.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

All of my most humbling and wonderful experiences happened while traveling. For example, in the summer of 2013 I spent two months in the backcountry mountains of the Klamath National Forest. Playing in dirt and listening to the sounds of the mountains for that long was the most beautiful thing I have ever experienced.
