About Me

14/04/24
Ok. Where does it begin? Well, I have to tell you that last night I didn't sleep after reading quite a lot of profiles that really fascinated me: in here, I've read very interesting stories and it has made me aware (sometimes we forget) of how beautiful, vast, and diverse humanity is. It's only right then to thank all of you who are on CS for making me rethink this. However, this analysis of profiles has also brought me a great doubt: who am I? What do I do, what can I bring to others? Why should they want to get to know me? And these questions have been circling in my mind all night.

So this morning, I decided to put down a first draft.

Andrea, 28, past scout, prior volunteer, ex-drummer, rudimentary groove box player, unsuccessful chess enthusiast, thwarted photographer, lacking cinephile, clumsy climber, retired biking travel, average doctoral candidate.

So far so good i can say, as a jump-start :)

🛋️Can I tell you why I'm here? I signed up to be a surfer, for now. Why? Because I'm curious, I like putting myself in other people's shoes; understanding how they live as individuals and as elements of a community. I enjoy understanding the city I'm passing through; grasping its true value, evaluating its ability to welcome and make people feel at home. In Italian, "città" is feminine, so I could say I'm interested in understanding what kind of mother the city I'm visiting is. As someone said, a city is a social weapon. And I can't disagree. Help me understand the city you're living in :)

🎲Can I tell you more? Yes. I don't particularly enjoy talking a lot about myself. Words, for me, are a tool to play and create. You could tell me about your experience in the Himalayas, and maybe I'll fall asleep; let's start creating a new and imaginary world with our words, and we can stay awake all night. I love playing, I love being inventive. Getting practical, let's challenge each other to backgammon, chess, your favorite game.

🪇I love discovering music; I'm a supporter of NTS and don't have preferred genres; I think music is a serious matter. So let's talk about any sound, rhythm, and musical tradition; let's dream of any instrument and jam if you're up for it.

📷I enjoy photography, especially close-ups or architectural and city life details. If you have a camera and want to have a couple of photos taken, you know who to ask!

I think that's enough for now. One last essential thing: I love going geocaching; so be prepared to hunt down lots of caches and search for the craziest ones in your city!

🧑‍🔧Technical notes: I've traveled quite a bit, have been a guest of hosts in a community similar to Couchsurfing but for cyclists (fietsbike). I greatly admire hosts and hope to soon reciprocate the hospitality I receive by allowing others to surf at my place when I have one. I'll state the obvious, but it's better to add: you'll have absolute respect, order, and cleanliness.

Ciao ✌️
