About Me

ABOUT ME

We are pretty easy going and interested in other people. I worked in Silicon Valley with computer engineers, raised a family, became an RN (LOVED it all), then retired early after injuring my back. Although I'm slower than I used to be, I still enjoy walking and exploring wherever I go.

We live in a rural area of Northern California near Lake Oroville and the Feather River, where there are wild deer, skunks, hawks, feral peacocks, and lots of frogs. Several of our neighbors have horses and miniature donkeys. We would have a large garden if the gophers didn't keep eating everything!

My partner is low key too, interested in others, and has traveled more than I. He loves talking politics and religion with anyone else who enjoys such discussions, and will avoid these topics with anyone who would rather not talk about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just got here and so far I'm learning about the site and enjoying it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None officially, lots with friends and acquaintances years ago.

Interests

Natural beauty and wildlife move us both. I like dogs and other domestic animals. John is more interested in politics and religion, finding them to be the things that really matter. He has studied many religions and we both have a great respect for those living their faith. Judaism draws us, and we are planning a trip to Israel this Spring (2013).

Music, Movies, and Books

Ushpazim, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Apostle are my favorite movies right now. Happy Texas and The Princess Bride still makes me laugh. Evil Alien Conquerors is a wonderful, really bad movie.

The Hunger Games series was one we liked. We read a fair amount, often in the hot tub. He reads more serious material, I read things that make me smile and/or science fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having a baby at home (with a midwife, without medication) has to be number one.

Followed by:
* Seeing the manatees swimming by while visiting Homosassa Springs in Florida last year.

* Feeling exhilarated, standing in the mist watching Niagara Falls. Why do waterfalls make me so happy?

* Watching the bats leaving Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico at dusk.

Teach, Learn, Share

Besides nursing, I know a little about herbal lore (medical and food uses of wild plants), native North American wildlife, dog training, and beading.

My husband can share a lot (if you're interested) about the different Christian origins and histories, Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism), Buddhism, Islam, different schools of Wicca and Paganism ... etc; but only if you are interested.

We want to learn more about Israel today and historically; to learn more about Judaism; to learn Hebrew.

I'd like to learn how to crochet, watercolor and any other craft/art skill you could teach. I'm trying to learn Hebrew, but am getting off to a slow start!
