About Me

ABOUT ME

I grew up in Guatemala but have been lucky to live and visit many places and meet great people along the way! I believe that the opportunities I've had to interact with people from different cultures and backgrounds from mine have truly made me a better person.

At the moment I'm working on a masters degree in water resources engineering. My research involves water use and alternative water management practices for crop irrigation in southern Alberta. In general, I'm very interested in all things water management!

I like to stay informed on what's going on in the world and attempt to make a difference through my involvement with the Edmonton City Network of Engineers Without Borders and the university's WISEST group that encourages girls to pursue non-traditional fields like engineering.

To feed my creative side, I enjoy doing things like trying out new recipes, taking dance lessons, crocheting the odd project, and attending as many concerts/plays/musicals/operas as my student budget allows for.

PHILOSOPHY

If I had to choose 3 words to describe the life I attempt to live, they would be "balanced, meaningful and loving". I believe that happiness is in the small things like good conversations with friends, fresh fruit, strangers who smile on the bus, and a spoonful of dessert.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I recently heard about a CouchSurfing meeting happening in Edmonton and decided to check it out since the idea of a community of people interested in traveling, hosting and meeting people from everywhere sounded exactly like something I would enjoy (also my roommate had just signed up to host). I was very impressed with everyone's friendly attitude and was pretty much instantly sold!

Music, Movies, and Books

My music collection has a bit of everything: from Latin beats and jazzy tunes to serious classical music and alternative sounds. I enjoy discovering new music so there's a chance that if you introduce me to a new artist I will add it to my collection.

As for books, I like novels, my favorites are usually ones with interesting female characters like those by Isabel Allende and Jane Austen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the best experiences I've had was travelling in Europe at age 17 with three guys. We traveled very cheap, stayed at hostels and with friends, and got to know each other well. We kept a group journal and plotted our "quality of life" during our travels on a sheet of paper :)
