About Me

I am a PhD Student in economics at the University of Zurich, living in Zurich for 6 years now. I share my flat with two lovely flatmates and a charming black cat named Behemoth. I love to travel, see new places and meet people from all over the world. I am also passionate about food, especially everything with sugar (I looove baking) and I love reading. Sometimes I also try myself at writing, especially when I am traveling. I further really like sewing, lately I started making my own clothes. Lastly (and probably most boringly) I am also quite passionate about economics, hence my PhD :).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have so far never tried it but since I increasingly travel alone lately, I think it is a great way to meet people and get in touch with local culture. Further, since I am very keen on learning new languages when I travel, I think it can be a great way to practice a bit. I'm very much looking forward to make friends in all the places I wanna travel to :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I just discovered this amazing band from Lebanon, Mashrou' Leila, they are sooo good, you should check them out, seriously! Generally, I like a variety of things, always depends on my mood. Nneka is one of my all time favorites, Florence and the machine as well.
Ohh books, there are so many! At the moment I am a little bit obsessed with the Swiss writer Christian Kracht, and I am trying to get my hands on everything he ever wrote. Further, I like Thomas Wolfe, Chimanmanda N'gozi Adichie, Zadie Smith, Daniel Kehlmann, Terezia Mora, Michel Houllebecq, Arundhati Roy,... and last, I am a huge fan of fantasy literature, I have read Lord of the Rings, the kingkiller chronicles (unfortunately third one is still missing), Harry Potter,.. more times than I can count.
In terms of movies, I have seen very little movies (my friends are always shocked at my lack of knowledge about any famous movie) but we did not have a TV in my home where I grew up so I missed out on all these amazing Disney movies and other classics, but I am currently trying to catch up :). All time favorite movie so far is still V. for Vendetta though :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am super-duper crazy scared of living fish (you know like other people are scared of spiders or mice or rats, (which I think is ridiculous as they are all so cute, but fish are just *shudder* ;)), so to me the most amazing thing I have done is go diving in this incredible reef outside of Koh Rong Samloem island in Cambodia. It was actually really really beautiful, but I was clinging on to the hand of my friend the whole time!
