About Me

For those entering this profile in a Sunday morning... Grab a coffee guys this might take a while :))

I guess it all started back in 2013 when in a drunk night me and my best friend at the time decided to book flights to Rome after a night out (the flights were booked in the club yes). Next day without remembering anything we met again for lunch and continued our lives. Two weeks later i receive a notification from Ryanair to check-in online. Hey people...Ryanair pushed me that day and i had to get on that plane alright?! :D

2 years later i participated in a student exchange program through my university and spent 6 awesome months in Budapest, Hungary. During my stay i visited aprox 7 countries, met people from all around the world and certainly it was the period which changed me as a person. I went back to my hometown where i used to study in Greece and just couldn't handle it. All i wanted was to travel and meet people and speak in English (i would say i like my English personality better than my Greek!).

A couple of trips followed that year and now i needed a plan. - I started applying abroad for internships and jobs. Whatever that would get me out of where i was. The financial situation and the greek mentality following that was definitely something i wanted to avoid. After spending my summer applying online and working at the same time i finally got a break and got accepted to an IT Consultancy right outside of London, UK where i work up until today.

2 months in my manager proposed me to stay full time and i got the opportunity that i so much wanted. Leaving abroad, being able to work on what i studied and not in part time jobs and the ability to be in one of Europe's (still EU) metropolitan cities.

Travelling never stopped and i always try when work allows me to go for a quick weekend somewhere inside or outside the UK.

I have lived in 3 countries so far, shared rooms, flats and houses with many people and travelled in almost 20. - Next stop is Lisbon where i move by the end of January 2018 as my company transfers its operational offices there.

That's me in a nutshell. - It gets funnier the deeper you get into these conversations but i wanted to keep it short and sweet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is a good one. I think of Couchsurfing as a community.
I haven't had the opportunity to host or get hosted yet but always joined the meet-ups and parties in Athens,Greece. Its a good way and breakthrough to meet people with same interests, vies, visions, dreams. The advantage of being part of this community is that you might be alone wherever you travel but you are never lonely. So the answer to this i would say is the necessity of meeting new and interesting people.

I had this conversation once with a friend:

- (Him) Do you like travelling?

- (Me) Bro who doesn't like travelling. Even a rock would say if i could travel i would. I don't believe people that say i don't really mean it.

- (Him) Bro rocks don't move.

- laughs

- (Me) The right question would be why you like travelling.. When you want to start this conversation you should take "Yes" for granted to the question to "Do you like travelling?" and just skip it.

To sum it all up Couchsurfing is another way to facilitate something that i truly believe we all like and unite the like-minded individuals.

Interests

I would say i'm an open to discover new interests person. - Short answer for those bored to read: Photography, Travelling, Going out, Exercising, Reading (way too boring, read below pleeeease!)

When it comes to being alone, while travelling or just having free time i would say i really like photography. Looking endless hours work from various photographers through the web. Exploring how they captured a certain shot and seeing the world from their eyes.
Photography is an art that allows you to experience what the person who took the shot had in his mind. Most of my trips i travel alone. I spend endless hours trying to get the right shot in a busy and full of people square. I like the architecture of the buildings and how that can be captured. People and their expressions and experimenting with colours and light.

I like history. Not getting crazy and stuff. I just like watching documentaries and understanding the decision making process for various actions of famous historic figures. - Currently watching "The Cuba Libre Story" on Netflix which explains what that glorious Caribbean island has been through.
My whole buzz with history started when i visited the Nazi concentration camps in Auschwitz and Birkenau. What an experience that was... Being from a country with such a long history as Greece you sometimes get to underestimate history and the fact that it repeats itself.

Huge fan of the "big screen". New releases old releases, comedies, dramas, series, movies. Whatever it is bring it on!

Always try to squeeze some exercising in my schedule. I used to train way more when i was younger but my lifestyle and work life now don't really allow it as much as i would want. Hitting the gym 2-3 times a week though i would say its a must.

Combining the gym with my love for cooking is always a good choice. I cook. Greek food, non Greek food whatever it is. I would say i find easy executing recipes but even more easy experimenting with flavours. Since i was a kid my mother and grandmother taught me to combine flavours and most of the time the outcome is pretty delicious.!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Greek music a lot. For someone non greek though is difficult to understand the various types of it. I would say i am emotionally attached with the music i grew up with and which i linked with the various moments of my life.

Nowadays my phone is full of Arctic Monkeys, The Clash, Nirvana, Guns & Roses, Kasabian, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ash Riser, Gorillaz, Placebo, Pixies, Portishead, Jazz, Blues ambient music and of course Greek Greek Greek!

Movies are a tough one.
My best would be Schindler's list, Fight Club (shhh no one spoke about it), Seven, Pulp Fiction, The Beach, blah blah blah , many more ...

Best series and actually the first one i ever watched : Breaking Bad!! - Following that: Narcos, Suits, Gotham, HIMYM, How to get away with murder, Hannibal.

I don't read that many books generally.
Those that i have really liked are: Cockroaches - Joe Nesbo, Zorba the Greek - Nikos Kazantzakis, The name of the rose - Umberto Eco
