About Me

*****Though I appreciate all requests I'm sorry, but actually and approximately also the hole year 2017 I'm not able to host somebody as I'm traveling by myself.*****

Hey, I'm a 34 year old guy from Berlin. After studying I worked in a hospital for seven years until I quit my job in June 2014 for a traveling period of probably two years...after finishing that I joined a friend who founded a company for speech therapy, physical and occasional therapy. Besides that we are developing Apps for therapists and patient which is quite a new business area in Germany and hopefully will work out quite well. That also got us a lot of work so traveling became more mutual during the last years. In the moment there is a trip to the wonderful country of Iran on schedule.

To lose a few words about my way of traveling:
I prefer occasions to places. That usually leads to high level of spontaneity and in bad cases can blow away ideas on the ticket counter with the Sold-out sign. Of course that will not lead me change my way. I'm also not hunting for selfies in front of famous places. I beleave that the most famous and have-to-visit places also will be there the next time but an occasion to do something different might be gone forever. For example I would skip visiting Machu Picchu for the opportunity to visit a Copa Libertadores game with my Argentinian friends and their club somewhere in Bolivia or Ecuador without thinking about it more than two minutes. No offense dear Incas but I guess after being there hundreds of years your beautiful and genius construction will survive also the next 10-20...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well I guess for the same reason as most of the people here. To get to know places not just only from the Hostel perspective and to get a feeling how the local culture is for real. To see and explore places that you wouldn't without knowing somebody local and for conversations including more than the usual backpacker speech.. And for speaking about South America: to raise my Spanish by getting in contact to locals is also a part of it.

Interests

As a proper German I'm crazy about football. Not the German national team (I really don't like them) but more about the cultural aspects of the game and the atmosphere around. I love to visit games where ever I'am not carrying about the League level at all. In my poor opinion you can learn a lot of the country or local area you are just by watching football and how it is celebrated. I also do like other sports and activities like diving, cycling, skiing, hiking and so on.. In Berlin I used to go the cinema at least once a week...unfortunately there was no opportunity to do this during traveling so far...During the summer I'm usually on a few music festivals where Indie, Folk or Rock Music is played. Coming to a new city I usually take a long walk to get an impression where I am and sitting in a cafe or bar just to watch the people or - even better - get in touch with them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - Indie, Folk and Rock Music in general. I prefer handmade instead of Computer-made.
Bands: Beatsteaks, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly for lifetime...others come and go..
Movies: In general I prefer Indie or Arthouse movies instead of Blockbusters. But there are exceptions like on everything. Not a big fan of Fantasy and SciFi. Love Tarantino and the Coen Brothers. Also the Black scandinavian humor. In a nutshell: movies are great.
Books: I love to read and I'm grateful about the invention of the Ebook for being a great light-weight travel buddy. But at home I like to touch the paper of books or magazines. Don't have a favorite autor but like books about traveling and places of the world in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Maybe nothing or a lot depending on the people I speak to. The thing that popped in to my head first was the swim (or the swims) in the Arctic Sea these summer in Norway during the Traena festival at midnight with a shining sun. Loved it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Share experience is the first thing that pops into my mind. But to learn or teach a language is also not a bad thing. If somebody is asking for it: I'm in!

What I Can Share with Hosts

For the time I'm not in Berlin: unfortunately not my home. For being a guest: my experience and my curiousity about all topics referring the place you live.

Countries I’ve Visited
