I strongly recommend to see two places - unique Grand Palace in Tsaritsyno (doing in neo-gothic style for Empress Catherine)

and wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in Kolomenskoye (270 rooms decorated with paintings and carvings was built in 1667 without using any fasten materials, nails or hooks!)
