About Me

I am a documentary filmmaker and I work for KTOO in Juneau. After years of bouncing to and from Alaska, I'm finally here for good. It feels like the culmination of the trip that first got me on CS, ten years ago, when I tried to reach Alaska by bicycle from San Diego (went broke in Canada).

I love to meet new people, listen to elders, and find time to do anything that is physically challenging.

I come from a large and boisterous Latino family so I love bonding with people over food, music, and animated conversation.

I have a small but beautiful apartment and I love to cook for guests.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is near and dear to my heart because of the the life long friends that I have met through the site during my travels. Couchsurfing has even helped me with journalistic projects. In 2016 I traveled the length of Brazil's Rio Doce (Sweet River) for 5 months, reporting on the largest mine tailings spill in history. I could not have done it without the Couchsurfing community in the Rio Doce rive valley! Couchsurfers were featured in some of my radio reports, helped me understand region and slang, and provided much needed companionship during a tiring journey.

Here is a story I produced in Brazil: http://bit.ly/2gntCn1

Interests

I love all things to do with the water: surfing, fishing, paddling, swimming. Looking to take full advantage of all that Juneau offers in this regard.

As a filmmaker I am drawn to stories that carry the pulse of our natural world--the mountains, rivers, jungles, and oceans-- and that focus on how people interact with and are shaped by their environment.
