About Me

I am a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. I have also been a bartender for 5 years now, but at the moment I am taking a break from work and study to travel abroad. I am 26 years old, and I am currently travelling through Europe until November--but maybe longer! I love learning about new cultures and I try to integrate into every community I visit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love the Couchsurfing experience! My former roommate was a Couchsurfing host, and the experiences I had living in a host house were all positive. I think that the best way to travel is by making friends as you go, and Couchsurfing offers an excellent platform to do that with.

Interests

I play several instruments and I love to create music both with others and in solo projects. I believe that music is a language that everyone can be fluent in.

I studied photography at university, and I shoot film photography often. If I am Couchsurfing in your location, I most definitely have my camera with me! I develop all my film myself.

I love to read, though I am not sure whether I like fiction or literature more. I believe that a good book should always read like a new adventure, and should hide a lesson no matter the reader.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of music: jazz, rock, psychedelia, classical and Spanish or Latin-American. For the most part, I listen to psychedelic rock.

Right now, my favourite book is "If On A Winter's Night A Traveller" by Italo Calvino. I also like "The Prophet" by Khalil Gibran and "A Short History of Progress" by Ronald Wright.

My favourite movie... there are just so many!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in the top 600 applicants for the Mars One Space Project!

Teach, Learn, Share

I was once a teacher up in my hometown in Baker Lake, Nunavut. I was 22 years old, although I was teaching at a community college, so all of my students were my age or older! It was a humbling experience.

Once, only one of my students was in attendance for morning class. He took a break to go outside and smoke, but ran back inside in a hurry. He said he had to leave immediately! I asked why, and he said that I should go outside. I did--and there were hundreds, maybe thousands of caribou (like reindeer), just a few kilometres away! (Up in Nunavut, most families still hunt to survive). I told him he could leave, of course! It was a most incredible sight.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am an avid cook, and would love the opportunity to make a meal for my hosts! I can also share good conversation and a very polite demeanor.
