About Me

I'm Andrew! Right now, I'm a history student at the University of St Andrews, soon to finish in May. However, I believe I can learn far more from seeing the world for myself than sitting in a classroom. So far I have visited many countries across Europe, including Norway, Israel, Gran Canaria and Malta.

I am quite a cycling fanatic and love exploring places by bike. Recently I cycled the North Coast 500 with two other university friends and loved the comradery and the amazing folks we met along the way! I am also planning to cycle Lands End to John O'Groats this summer with three or four other lads.

My next adventure is to do Race 2 Munich this January, in which I will attempt to hitchhike from Scotland to Munich with two university friends. Wish me luck!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love anything retro/classic in terms of music, such as Baroque music or the Crooners. I have gone to a few concerts, such as listening to Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' in the Birmingham Symphony Hall. I have also listened to Renaissance, russian folk and choral music in St Salvators Hall, St Andrews.

I also prefer theatre over cinema. Over the years, I have seen many plays, my favourite of which was the Russian State Circus which came to Malvern Theatre. It was quite sublime to see someone do a backflip whilst on iceskates.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a road trip around Iceland a few years ago in a truck and witnessed some of the most breathtaking scenary of my life. This included a 100 mile drive to viti (translates as 'hell') in which there was nothing but lava next to the road the whole way. We drove over many fjords and almost got swept away on a number of occasions!

Teach, Learn, Share

Right now, I am learning German and would love to have the opportunity to practice it a bit with locals! I would also relish the chance to experience some local culture with hosts and meet any of their friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whilst there, I can help with any cooking or cleaning that needs doing. I am also happy to share any of my stories with hosts!
