About Me

I'm currently channelling my inner Jack Kerouac by travelling from the East to the West coast of the US (NY to SF), complete with attempt to figure out this strange thing called life. I like reading, writing, and I take my coffee black, which my friends tell me makes me something of a cliché...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I finally joined Couchsurfing after it was recommended to me by fellow travellers for the millionth time. I really like the idea of meeting locals - and individuals! I prefer hanging out 1-to-1 or in smaller groups to large crowds as I believe that is the only time you can really connect with other people (not to mention big groups of people can be overwhelming!) so Couchsurfing seems like a logical way to travel.

Interests

Travelling for me is just as much (if not more so!) about immersing myself in the local experience as it is about ticking off all of the tourist spots. I love sitting incognito in coffee shops with a book and notepad and watching the world go by (but museums are cool too).

Music, Movies, and Books

José Ortega y Gasset is the most underappreciated philosopher of the twentieth century. Jus' sayin'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once made Tom Stade laugh when he played at the bar I worked in.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have nothing to share but my own confusion. Joking! That's a Kerouac quote (just trying to live up to the cliché). A lot of people I meet describe me as curious and I love learning. I don't feel presumptuous enough to promise that I could teach anyone anything, but I love deep conversations with people where you try to unravel life and then end up laughing at the end because you realise the futility of it all and you're still no wiser for the experience but it was somehow edifying and you go away feeling good about life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

(Hopefully) interesting conversation... I am independent so I won't be hanging off your coat tails if you have work or stuff going on, but I'm also keen to get to know locals so would definitely love to hang out and get to know you. I'm up for pretty much anything, whether it's visiting a museum, going for a hike, or drinking some beers, but I have a severe allergy to karaoke. Oh, and my dancing makes Morrissey look like Fred Astaire. You have been warned.
