About Me

Hi! I'm a recent post-grad of Amherst College. I was born in Frankfurt and as a young boy spent time traveling the world. Though memories of that time are faded, the impetus to explore remains. At home, some of my favorite memories have been made by having the chance for people to share with me stories about their life in different parts of the world. It's what excites me about having the opportunity to finally travel, so that I can share my stories, talents and experiences with people gracious enough to welcome me into their homes.

I consider myself to be a very easy-going individual. I do like a plan, but I know that even the best laid plans are often led astray. If there's any motto I would follow it's "Semper Gumby". A corruption of the Marine Corp's "Semper Fi", to means that you take what you're given, and if things don't come out as expected then you make the most of it. It's gotten me this far, and in my opinion the best stories come from times when things have gone completely wrong.

Two of my favorite hobbies are cooking and cocktails. I'm afraid of talking too much about them for fear of bragging, but I enjoy the creative process that is incorporated into making good food and drink, and I'd be happy to share with people what I know and what food I can make. In that respect, whether it's washing dishes or making meals, I won't shy away from helping out if a host asks me to, and I feel it's a small way of showing my appreciation for someone offering my home to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to see the world, and the best way to do that is to see it through the eyes of other people.

More importantly, I'm looking to further the human experience, to exchange a lifetime of stories and experiences with other people, and in doing so making friends and gaining wisdom!

If I've sent a request, it's because I think you're a genuine person who I'd love to share my experiences and help with.

Interests

I guess I'd have to say I'm a nerd in all things, I'm always searching for the "how" and "why" of things.

I'd start with history and current events. If there's anything I've learned, it's that nothing in our world happens in a vacuum. Even talking to friends about different parts of history is interesting, as the world has different perspectives on the same event, something I find not only interesting but something to be cognizant of in such an international world. I'm happy to talk politics, that said I'm aware it can be a touchy subject, so I'm also happy to listen!

I was a college athlete, and I do have a bit of a competitive side, but at the end of the day it's the fun and camaraderie that's the most important part of sports!
