About Me

I am a nearly graduate student of International Relations programme in Canterbury, UK. Currently unemployed and enjoying my summer vocation.

I am friendly, open minded, willing to explore, ready to go anywhere with nice people, curious, and risky enough. I can speak about multiple topics (even if I know nothing about them) I prefer not to sit on one place for too long as it becomes boring after a while. And I like to surround myself with diverse people as it gives me an insight of a life from different angles - one day i hang out with an programmer discussing how Intel processors are better than AMD and the next day I am at the urban poetry event sipping wine in a cafe.

PS.
I can praise myself as much as I want so just have a look on some of my references

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Getting to know people from all over the world and interacting with them is something that you can not find on internet or read in the books. I feel like this community consists of like-minded people that are opened to new experiences, knowledge and stories. Basically all the things that I am curious to learn in my life are hidden in the people that I interact with

Interests

I like to play and watch sports most commonly its volleyball (beach volley preferably) and ofcourse football. Once I even took my football shoes 2000 km away from home just because my host in Tbilisi said that we could play while I am staying at his place.

Since I come from Latvia, Ice Hockey is a big thing in my life (at least once a year, while we are in the World cup)

I am really a big enthusiast of commemorative coins - my collection contains coins of UK, USSR, EU, USA, Eastern bloc countries and western europe from 19th century. Also as a matter of fact I collect banknotes and tokens. So in case you have something to show me i can spend there hours examining coins

And ofcourse i like travelling, that is the reason we all are here. I did several big and small trips with minimal comfort and staying in all inclusive hotels so I have experience both in being lazy abroad and being active abroad. Trekking, camping and backpack are items present in most of my trips.

Other small hobbies and interest may include cooking (since recently), fictional books, cycling, photography.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - Fight club is my favorite movie (In general thrillers, detectives and documentary)
Books - in general fiction books but i have interest in lots of genres. At the moment reading: lots of books about politics (for studies)
Music - I prefer not to listen something in particular. It is hard to list all the groups and musician I like, but my facebook page should say it all. Also I am keen on live performances, in my home town I never miss a chance to hear something live as well as festivals.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two stories in one

I did my first hitchhiking trip from Porto (Portugal) till Riga (Latvia) in 2015. It was an amazing experience where I met people from all over the globe, saw countries of Europe from inside and I was surprised by generosity of people that knew nothing about me. Repeated similar experience with my friends in 2018 around Balkans - decided for myself that I am coming back for sure.

While being on my first trip I met a girl on a subway station in Vienna. She was crying because her credit card was refused in a ticket machine. I helped her out buying a ticket for a subway and we went to an amusement park together. This experience costed me almost nothing but I managed to make a friend for life. It was a girl from Santiago (Chile) and we still meet each other every now and then when she is around Europe.

Teach, Learn, Share

Usually I never come with empty hands to my hosts - I bring something that is a trademark of the country I come from. When it comes to teaching well I can teach you how to swear in the languages i know, most needed skills in any language.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my travel stories, which I hope will get more diverse with every year. Oh and sharing some nice bottle of local homemade alcohol would be a pleasure for me :)
