About Me

I am 22 years old and just finished my Undergrad at the University of New Mexico. Currently enjoying some time off and doing a little traveling before starting a career! I'm very active and enjoy getting out and experiencing as much as I can. I enjoy going out and partying with friends and meeting new people wherever we go. While I do enjoy my time at home reading every now and then or relaxing with friends, I am constantly looking for ways to get out and see and do as much as I possibly can! If an opportunity to do something adventurous comes my way, I'll almost always say yes! If you are the same way, hopefully we can experience something exciting together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm pretty new to this, but have heard nothing but good things from friends who have used it. Like I said earlier, Im spending a few months traveling. I figured what better way to truly get to know a place than to spend time with those who know it best! I hope to really get off the beaten path and see a side of things that I wouldn't get to see if I stuck with the typical "tourist" locations.

Interests

Anything and everything new! From finding a small local hang out spot to relax at to traveling out of the way to experience a regions natural landscape. I love getting outside and away from the crowds (although I enjoy just about any experience that is new to me). I'm a huge snowboarder in the winter. During the warmer months I enjoy lake activities, backpacking, hiking, cliff jumping, rock climbing, mountain biking, surfing, etc... Basically anything that involves getting out of the house and into the world!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One time while out fishing a mountain river, a large unexpected thunderstorm rolled in and caught my father, brother and me in an exposed valley with no shelter from the lighting. We had a 3 mile trek back to safety as the lighting was hitting the sides of the canyon. As the storm worsened, we began to run down the trail. It was pouring rain. Thunder was crackling as the lighting struck trees and rocks no more than 100 feet on either side of us. As we ran, we came to the crest of a small hill in the valley where the three of us froze dead in our tracks. Coming from the other side of the hill was a 400 pound brown bear and her two cubs. The three of them stopped no more than 10 feet in front of the three of us...now all six of us frozen in our tracks as the lighting struck the valley walls around us. The momma bear stood up on her back legs, looking at us right at eye level and in that brief moment, we all shared a connection that can't really be expressed in words. It's as if she looked into our eyes and said "I'm just here to get my cubs to safety, just as your father is trying to do for you." There was a mutual understanding between man and bear in that moment. All six of us realized there was greater danger than each other as the lighting was striking closer by the minute. She dropped down to all fours, seemingly as a gesture of her shared understanding, and began running again with her cubs close behind. The three of us then began our run to shelter as well. We made it back safely, but to this day, I still can't fully explain the intensity of that moment and the connection we made with such a powerful creature. Thats a story I'll enjoy telling for the rest of my life!

Teach, Learn, Share

Im not sure when the next time I'll have 8 months of no commitment in life. Im blessed to have this opportunity to see the world and would like to inspire others to take some risks and break out of their comfort zone a little. I once heard the saying,
"When you look back on your life, it's not the things you did that you regret most, but the things you didn't."
I try and say yes to as many opportunities as possible, and I hope I can inspire others to do the same.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm always excited to learn and see things from others perspectives! I'm easy going, organized, low maintenance and an okay cook. I'm sure to learn and experience the world in a unique way through the help of hosts, I just hope I can return the favor and make a positive impact on their lives during our time together as well.
