Overview
About Me
I'm a guy that likes to be active and learn things but I'm pretty relaxed and chilled out about it really. I grew up in a town in the north of Scotland so I'm addicted to fresh air and walking. I get along well with most people, as long as there's respect.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Different mode of travel.
Hostels are fine but I'm not exactly a party animal.
When I go somewhere I like to engage with the local people and the local culture, otherwise you're often just in your own wee bubble looking out at random places and not understanding or experiencing them.
Interests
I like nature, climbing, hillwalking, food, learning about culture and language, the way people live their lives and their passions. I enjoy the occasional conversation about life and the cosmos and enjoy hearing about history both ancient and modern.
Really enjoy the small things in life and am not much of a party animals. Sitting by the fire in the winter with a hot drink or BBQ in the summer is the best thing to do.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: I love it. Listen to pretty much anything other than chart stuff, pop or "gangsta" rap.
I play the bagpipes and used to be a street performer. Can also play a few chords and half-ass a few songs.
Films: Enjoy actions, dramas, comedies, etc. Not much of a film snob really.
Books: Don't read too much but enjoy engaging with non-fiction, scientific and philosophical content. Currently reading;
Empire - Niall Ferguson
Waking Up - Sam Harris
Rationality - Steven Pinker
Why We Sleep - Matt Walker
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I remember getting caught in a blizzard once with a friend from Ireland, we had pitched our tent on a hill in the south of the Cairngorms. We took the tent down and packed everything away and walked like 5 miles in the dark through the blizzard with our feet wet and eventually got back to safety in a nearby village where I had the 2nd best pint of Guinness in my life.

What I Can Share with Hosts
