About Me

I’m Andrew and I am embarking on an overland backpacking trip through East Africa from December 2024-April 2025. This trip specifically is exciting for me because I don’t have a ton of prior connections in East Africa to begin with so I will be able to meet a bunch of new people. I am open to just about anything and am really excited for whatever comes my way.

While living in Georgia in 2022, I was fortunate enough to meet some fellow couchsurfers who introduced me to the app. I really appreciate how welcoming the community is and I look forward to having meaningful conversations and connections throughout my trip over the next six months and beyond.

I have a wide range of interests, but I love any activities that are outdoors. This include hiking (a major component of my current travels) as well as water sports including fishing and free diving (think hold your breath and swim down). I also try to stay well informed with world events and am extremely interesting in learning about the lives and perspectives of those I meet. Last interesting fact is that I have an interesting diet that makes me essentially pescatarian (seafood but no meat).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I want to learn the perspectives of people around the world. Through traveling in hostels I have met a ton of great travelers, but I would love to meet more locals as well and base my travel plans off of suggestions I receive. Once I settle down I am really excited to host people myself, but not sure when/where that will be quite yet.

Music, Movies, and Books

Older country and rock, music in other languages (please help build my playlist!!), any action/thriller movies, and nonfiction/history books. I am looking to read more about the history of everywhere I plan to visit and would love any good book suggestions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have dove to 35 meters while holding my breath

Teach, Learn, Share

Willing to help teach/practice English and I would love to learn new languages as well. I think I am going to encounter a bunch of new languages/dialects during this trip, so even learning basic phrases would be really helpful.

I packed a travel fishing rod and would be happy to fish with anyone. I also would love to teach the basics of free diving, even if we don’t have any water to practice in. I have a bunch of good stories to share as well
