About Me

Adventure has been a way of life for the bulk of my adult life - having lived in Greece as a teenager, and Sweden as an exchange student in Uppsala, and having traveled to in excess of 30 countries -including almost all of Europe, parts of Asia, Southern Africa, and the USA.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am about to go on a three week trip, meeting up with my future stepson, Dylan in Budapest on January 17th, 2018 for a few days, then onward to Kavala, Greece on the 21st, and thought I'd give the site a try. It's likely we'll be travelling together for most of the the time between January 17th and February 4th. So the two of us - one American (him) and one Australian (me) are looking to meet up with like-minded people, and if that translated to a night on someone's couch or so to stretch our travel dollar, we'd we certainly wouldn't say no!

Music, Movies, and Books

Sophie's World, by Jostein Gaarder. Eureka Street, by Robert McLiam Wilson, The Art of Travel - Alain de Botton (books)

Movies: Local Hero, Goal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once tried to cycle from Melbourne to Sydney via the coastal route (1000km), got half way, and failed miserably after taking a fall and straining my ankle. But that was beside the point - it's amazing the kinds of people you meet when you slow down your mode of travel.

Teach, Learn, Share

Mum used to call me a 'walking encyclopedia.' I don't know about that, but I'm certainly game at talking on any subject. I'm expert in some, and can certainly paper over the cracks and feign expertise!

I'm a wannabe polyglot with incurable wanderlust - lots of stories to keep you all entertained! I love to hear about other people's experiences too!

That's about all I could think of on the fly, but I'm sure something else will come to me.
