About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm on an extended walking pilgrimage to the tombs of all the Twelve Apostles. I've already walked from France, through Spain and Portugal. Now I'm taking a rest in Ukraine--a country I have long wanted to see, with a language I have long wanted to learn--before returning to walk from Turin, Italy, to Rome and to Patras, Greece, then sail to Turkey, to walk to Jerusalem.

ABOUT ME

I know some things. I know that what I do, I choose to do freely. And I know that I am responsible for my own happiness. Yet I know there is nothing more fulfilling or self-actualizing than loving others; it's the best. I know there are points from which there is no return, and I know the power of hope. And I know knowledge means nothing outside realization. So it's about time I get to realizing.

PHILOSOPHY

I've come to realize I'm simpler than I thought. I now approach existential and essential questions with humility and open eyes, for it's not the intellect that provides us with answers: it's the evidence. So I aim to see, and see clearly, and never to allow my thoughts or doubts to form a fog, but if they do, to just walk through, until I can see again. Beauty is truth, truth beauty--that is all we know on earth and all we need to know.

That is to say, respecting truth means respecting mystery. We may know many things, but they are only of as much value to us as we value a truth greater than our own.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm afraid I have no couch to offer for the time being. I'm making pilgrimage to Rome and Jerusalem. I'd appreciate whatever help I can get. I'm a considerate guest and agreeable, and I certainly won't overstay my welcome. I have plenty of stories to share and plenty of interest in the stories of other people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm new to couchsurfing, so I don't have much experience, but I hope to get some real soon.

Interests

I'm interested in a great many things. Knowledge is comparative, so one's scope has got to be broad.
