About Me

I'm really not confident with how to boil down who I am in a blurb. Others seem to have a knack for it but eff it, I'll just stick to this sort of resume-style synopsis; at least until I think of something better...

Until I was 18, I lived overseas (outside of the US) because my mom was a diplomat working in US embassies in foreign countries. I'm half Korea and was born in Seoul, Korea. I bounced around between there and Caracas, Venezuela; Beijing, China; and Tokyo, Japan, where I graduated from high school. I then moved to Florida to attend the University of Florida, where I graduated with a business degree. I worked for the Ritz-Carlton hotel company and then for two small hospitality management companies. I'm now pursuing my second degree in engineering at the University of Central Florida. I'm self-employed in real estate but also wait tables on weekend nights.

I think growing up in different countries has led me to have an exceedingly open mind. I'm open to, and accepting of, almost every type of lifestyle I've come across. I savor the spectrum of people and perspectives this world has to offer. I love to spend my evenings eating good food (of all kind), chatting, and drinking with good music in the background.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Although I initially signed up with couchsurfing in 2014 while in Spain, I ended up meeting someone in Sevilla and I stayed with them for a week. SO...this is my first actual factual attempt at couch surfing.

I'm doing it to have a more nitty gritty, organic experience of a place, and to get a taste of what a local's life might be like there. And simply to meet cool people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie
Best one I've seen in the last year (since 2015) is probably Whiplash.

Music
Way too much to mention but here's quick random sample:

Van Morrison - Gipsy Kings - Keith Sweat - Fleetwood Mac - Bob Dylan - Common - Lauryn Hill - Drake - Donny Hathaway - Curtis Mayfield - Alicia Keys - Dire Straits - Whitney Houston - Metallica - the list goes on and on.

Books
I'm a big non-fiction guy but I'll throw "Fountainhead" in here, and I feel like "Catcher in the Rye" is appropriate for a couchsurfing blurb. I'm currently reading "So Good They Can't Ignore You" by Cal Newport and "Folks, This Ain't Normal" by Joel Salatin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First thing that came to mind:
I went on a canoeing excursion deep in the Canadian wilderness for 3 weeks. We drove 5 hours north of Toronto and then took a float plane out to the middle of nowhere to a small basecamp and started our journey from there. 12 guys including myself took a summer to do this. We didn't encounter any other human beings the entire time. An incredibly strenuous and challenging but incredibly satisfying experience.

I know it said one but...
Also worked at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, which I thought was cool.
