About Me

Hello! My name is Andrew, I'm a 23 year old software engineer living in Boston. I have this belief about comfort zones that I follow in my life - I believe that the range of things we are comfortable with is always naturally shrinking, and to lead an interesting life, and be the kind of person I at least want to be, who is open and adventurous, we need to periodically break out of the normal and routine and do something crazy. Travel tends to be a good time to do that, and it's why I am always on the lookout for my next adventure.
I'd consider myself an easy going person, and I'm always happy to meet new people, as I find it's the easiest way to get new perspectives on yourself. I love talking about basketball, politics, history, philosophy, hip hop or music in general, and love going out dancing or hanging out in dive bars, or seeing live music, really just often enjoy the energy that cities bring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The startup I was working for as my first job out of college recently folded, and so i'm out of a job with a little severance money and a ton of time on my hands. Rather than jump back into the same routine with another 9-5, I am embarking on a 3 month cross country road trip by myself to see my backyard so-to-speak, and to to find what America has to offer me. I'm looking to meet friends around the country, and potentially find a new place to someday call home.

Interests

What i've found about myself in the past year or so is that I never had a very well defined sense of what I loved - high school, college, and earlier, my activities often tended to be what my friends around me were doing. Post grad life has been a really great opportunity to really find myself, and explore what makes me happy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Love hip-hop, especially artists like kendrick lamar, j cole, a tribe called quest, chance the rapper, really I could go on and on, it's been a life long love.
Also have recently begun to get into folk and americana, have been listenign to alot of the avett brothers and first aid kit. Also a big fan of the blues, rock and roll, soul, gospel, really anything, I'm just a fan of music.
Movies: Some favorites would be anything by Miyazaki, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mud, Interstellar, Walk Hard, and Casablanca.
Books: I've only recently become an avid reader, but I just read east of eden which I loved.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This past September I rented a car and drove across South Africa for a month. I met some really amazing people, went on a safari, and saw a completely different world from what I was used to in America.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well the most practical skill I've got to share is software engineering, but for the 99% of you who don't want to do that, what I've got to share for the most part is good conversation, and my experiences on my journey for self discovery, something I think most people are always in the process of doing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good company, happy to cook or hang out together, I'll be driving across the country so I can bring craft beer from some other location if that's of interest! I am also full of useless facts - I make a great bar trivia partner if that's something you're interested in!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Hungary, Italy, Lesotho, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, United States, Vatican City State
