Sobre mí

I'm 22 years old, hitchhiker who trusts strangers a little too much.

I've always been in love with the romanticized idea of travelling on a shoe-lace budget. Hitch-hiking my way, couchsurfing to meet new friends, and seeing the world through the eyes of people who live there. I always try to travel and live in the place I visit, not just see it like a tourist does.

Its a rough path figuring out what you want to do for a career but right now travel journalism is what I'm going towards. I have been writing journalism for my entire college career and now I've started writing about my adventures and guides and advice for travelling like I do, a distinct lack of budget and plan and cheating the system and making friends. My website is Homelessandabroad.com, at the moment its rather terrible looking, but it will look better soon.

Eventually I want to try to just go to Europe (my favorite place to travel so far) and see how far around I can get with no money at all. Just coast and hitch-hike and survive on the kindness of others. Eventually, when I'm done travelling or maybe taking a break, I want to be the person that can help that type of person travel, with.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing so I can meet new people and see new perspectives. I love to travel but I don't travel to see monuments and tourist attractions, I travel to make friends and have my eyes opened to new cultures and new ways of living life. I joined couchsurfing the moment I turned 18 and started using it the moment I had the chance, to make friends and see the world.

Couchsurfing also is a way to meet people in the unique way that I know they are as trusting of strangers as me. Its refreshing.

I host now because I was hosted by so many people on a 2 month trip travelling through Europe that I need to give the favor back to people.

Intereses

I play ukulele, play piano (but am horribly out of practice), love photography, am interested in all the sciences (I'm a physics major at university), journalism is a passion of mine, I ballroom dance, I love languages, and travelling and seeing as much of the world as I can is of course my greatest interest.

People are a great interest of mine as well. People are always so interesting with everyone having their own stories and adventures and history. A strong reason I travel is simply to meet people.

Música, películas y libros

Music is a huge passion of mine, some of my favorite bands are:
-The Dodos
-The Strokes
-Blink-182
-Alvvays
-Animal Collective
-KISS
-Matt & Kim
-Nirvana
And Stromae

I also read a lot, so I have a lot of favorite books, but some of the best I've ever read are:
-The Hitch-hiker's guide to the galaxy series
-The Stars My Destination
-Fahrenheit 451
-Fight Club
-1984
-Frankenstein
-All of Sherlock Holmes' stories

Algo increíble que he hecho

The one amazing thing I've done so far consisted of multiple ridiculous things. Over the summer of 2016 I bought two plane tickets for $600, one into Paris, one out of Copenhagen. With two months in between and $600 in my pocket, I hitchhiked through freezing rain, burning sun, and off the autoban. I slept under a bush in Budapest, I accidentally went to Venice, learned to survive off bread and fruit, saved my watermelon from vicious hungry pigeons, dumpster-dove, and managed to travel over 2500 miles purely from hitchhiking. I visited 12 countries on this trip meeting people form all over the world, being called crazy by world travellers and finding people going like myself to travel with. I learned a lot on that trip by essentially being homeless, my budget was 8 euro a day. I couldn't afford hostels so I slept at squats and couchsurfed. I met street performers and homeless people everywhere. I learned that there are assholes everywhere, and nice wonderful people everywhere.

Another amazing thing I've done (what I had written here before I hitchhiked for two months) was going to Puerto Rico with a friend for 5 days with zero plans. We had a shoe-string budget and no idea what to do or where to go once we got off the plane. We ended up meeting a couchsurfer who was from New York and brought us to El Yunque (a mountain and rainforest) in his rental car. We hiked all day and then went out to eat. Afterwards we met up with a friend form years ago and travelled all over puerto rico, they were locals. It was absolutely beautiful to see the island from a local's perspective with the mountains and waterfalls and villages and towns. And all this happened with no plans, the best part.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I love the sciences and mathematics, I'm a physics major at university. Anyone with an interest in that and I can talk about it for hours. Beyond that, I love to teach in general and enjoy learning new skills. So, I could teach ballroom dancing, photography, writing, photoshop and all adobe stuff, designing, to draw, ukulele, poi, rock climbing, didgeridoo and how to chea thte system while travelling ;)

I'd love, more than anything, to learn to speak French better and learn other languages in general. I try to pick up as much of the local language as I can, but once I leave the place it's hard to keep practicing without native speakers around. I guess I'll just have to stay in places longer

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I have many fun stories to tell of adventures in my own life to share, but also I wish to share my own perspective of the world, and in turn learn their's. The biggest thing I wish to share is how I see the world and life and be able to see how everyone else does as well. I can make amazing pancakes though, so there is also that.
