I'm a recovering bookworm who eventually forced myself out into the real world. I love travelling and getting to know new places, and I love talking about Arabic, the Arab world, and Arabic literature. I'm always interested in hearing other people's stories, and ready to supply a few of my own in the balance.

Interests

When I'm not at work, I enjoy writing - either translating Arabic literature, or just trying to capture a bit of my life abroad for people back home. A picture may save you a thousand words, but sometimes I enjoy writing more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul is one of the few sites I've visited that left me dumbstruck. The impossibly high ceiling looked out over a hall of floating chandeliers, with broad shafts of golden light streaming in through the south-east facing windows...

Another incredible sight was topping out over the Valley of the Kings, after winding our way up through the somewhat shaky path along the limestone cliffs. All of a sudden, the flat expanse of the Nile Valley unfolded before us, with farmland and ruins expanding out to the other cliff wall...
