About Me

I was born and raised in Manhattan, New York, but I'm currently completing my bachelor's degree in Film and Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. I'm hoping to take a year off after college to go teach English in Japan. I'm a visual artist, so after that I plan on going into studio art, filmmaking, or potentially advertising.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think it's impossible to get a real sense of a place without having an intimate, everyday, local experience. Couchsurfing provides the unique opportunity to meet and live with local people. The alternative would be a detached experience at an expensive hotel or an international, but tourist-centric experience at a hostel.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a wide range of music, but I particularly love jazz, classic rock, hard rock, blues, prog rock, and I guess anything with interesting rhythms and complex, but intriguing melodies. Some of my favorite artists include: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Yes, King Crimson, David Bowie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Cannonball Adderley, Tigran Hamasyan, and Brian Blade. I have a long list of favorite movies, but I'll list a few of my favorite directors: David Lycnh, Warner Herzog, Terry Gilliam, Paul Thomas Anderson, The Coen Brothers, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Altman, Jia Zhangke, Leos Carax, Hayao Miyazaki...
Some of my favorite books include Freedom, by Jonathan Franzen; The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, by Haruki Murakami; and A Wizard of Earthsea, by Ursula K. LeGuin.
