关于我
According to the MBTI, a very popular yet highly arguable tool used in determining an idividual's personality type, I am INFP. And according to statistics, a scientific tool reducing everything into numbers and percentages, only 4% of the world's population are INFP, and that would make us rare. In addition to this ~rarity~, I have this condition wherein I see time (in weeks, months, and in years) and number sequences in my head. It's apparently a form of synesthesia, called Time-Space or Spatial Sequence Synesthesia (SSS), wherein people like me visualize time and numbers which are projected and mapped within our minds. It's like a cognitive map on how we experience time and the number line. Studies found that only 1% of the population has synesthesia, and a portion of that one percent is those with SSS. Talk about rarity! But however rare I could be, I can't say I am one of those one-of-its-kind gems that's worth a million dollars, or one of those rare species of living thing that would've disrupted the balance of nature were it to become extinct. Well I don't see myself that way at least; I'm sure society would agree with me. I mean, look at me--I'm a 26-year-old freelancer (aka unemployed), still clawing my way through college for a mere piece of paper and a handshake. Oh I am rare, all right. I'm an outlier--a renegade, challenging the curve. However, outliers like me are exactly why society remains fluid. We prevent society from being too static, monotonous, boring. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am different, unpredictable, strange, and really REALLY weird. I just hope this uncommonness could at least leave a relevant mark in the face of this planet before this universe turns back to nothing.
我为什么加入 Couchsurfing
Like everyone else here, I love going to different places to expose myself in different cultures and landscapes. I've always traveled with family, friends, and colleagues within the country but have never traveled independently (well, once I've flown to and from NZ alone, but I stayed with my relatives so I can't truly say I've gone on a trip by myself.) I'm planning on doing that real soon, though. Cebu and Bohol are on top of my list of places to visit by myself. But first I must save enough money for tickets and provisions. Definitely, Couchsurfing could help minimize lodging expenses, especially for budget travelers like me. Plus I don't really mind having to stay in some stranger's space, although that sounds a bit scary. But hey, that's part of the thrill! And strangers can't be all that bad, right? I mean once you get to know them a little bit, share a meal with them, I guess they wouldn't be that much of a stranger now, won't they?

我做过的一件不可思议的事情
I was involved in the production of Walang Rape sa Bontok (Bontok, Rapeless), winner of the 38th Gawad Urian for Best Documentary, together with three of my colleagues-turned-friends from Habi Collective. What's amazing about it, aside from our courage to break the taboo of rape and sexual harassment by speaking up about it on film, is how our team contributed to the preservation of the slowly dying Bontok culture in Bontoc, Mountain Province, Cordillera, Philippines.
And just recently, I won grand prize for my very first documentary film, Magtatahi Nakurah (Tailoring Leadership). The competition was set by The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), with the theme: Filipino women as culture bearers. It makes me real proud to have written and directed a documentary that was worth catching the attention of folks from the NCCA. I think I may have actually found my calling :)

I have not much to offer, but I could share stories of my experiences over a smoke and/or a cup of coffee/tea or a couple bottles of beer--it's on me! And if resources allow, I could cook us a meal and/or whip up a bowl of my mom's special sour cream dip everyone just can't get enough of!
