Music, Movies, and Books

Music...
I grew up listening to old skool 60s-70s Rock/folk/pop. So bands and artists such as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Rod Stewart, The Animals, The Kinks, The Stones, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen.. All the other classic stuff my parents didn't listen to followed: The Doors, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Jimi, Bob Marley, U2, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Queen. Then the 90s came along! Faith No More, Pulp, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Oasis, Stereophonics. Nowadays my ears have been fully exposed to the delights of Of Monsters and Men, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Cee Lo Green....

Movies...
Alien, BladeRunner, Withnail and I, This is Spinal Tap, Team America, Halloween, The Fog, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Pulp Fiction, Birdman, The Life of Brian, Indiana Jones, Star Wars...to name a few. TV shows off the top of my head... Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Black Books, IT Crowd, Spaced, Flight of the Conchords, The Mighty Boosh.

Books... The last two books I've read have been excellent! The first was Empire of the Summer Moon by SC Gwynne, about the last days of the Comanches in the West, and the story of Quanah Parker, the son of a captured pioneer girl and a Quahadi chief, who became their last leader and a renowned figure of the time. An intense and visceral account, and an absolutely fascinating look back at a lost way of life. The second was They All Love Jack by Bruce Robinson (writer and director of one of my fave cult films). I've never delved into the Jack the Ripper mystery, but as Bruce says in his intro, he soon realised it was more a question of why there is any mystery to start with. What he uncovered was an utterly mind bending scale of corruption and cover ups. Essential reading if you've got the stomach for it!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hot air balloon ride over the Atlas Mountains at sunrise was something else!
I also traveled round the world for a year (circumnavigated the globe if you want to sound fancy!) and visited 18 countries in 12 months, skydived over Lake Wanaka in NZ, scubadived the Whitsundays, climbed Wayna Picchu in Peru and saved my ex from being eaten by an alligator in the Everglades.
I realise this is more than one thing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I play guitar and I'm always happy to jam or teach. I'm a native English speaker so I can help with anyone who wants to learn or improve. I'd love to learn Spanish and I picked up some Swahili last year in Tanzania so would like to expand on my basic vocab. I enjoy cooking and teaching or learning new recipes, sharing ideas and feeding people!
