About Me

I'm graduating this June, woo! I just applied for a Peace Corps position in The Gambia and interview on Wednesday, woo! Surfing and observing biology are my things. Life is pretty cool :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have two weeks of vacation coming up in June and I'm looking to keep my costs down. I'll be in the San Francisco/Santa Cruz area for surf from June 13th through the 27th. My car is all decked out to sleep in but I'd like some safe places to park at night where I can avoid harassment. I'd also love to meet some cool locals to chat with. I'll be a lone wolf on this trip for the most part so I'd love some good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

Hmm, too much music to name. The Tom Petty station on Pandora has been treating me well lately.

I like all kinds of movies but haven't' had much time for them lately. I did see Infinity War and was pleasantly surprised (I'm an old comic book nerd :)

I'm reading "Barbarian Days, a Surfing Life" by Finnegan right now. Great surf book. I'm also reading a lot of spiritual books at the moment as well. "The World's Religions" by Huston Smith is a great book for an overview.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It sounds more impressive than it actually was but I did save a guy from drowning once as a lifeguard way back when. I didn't have to give rescue breaths and someone else would definitely have pulled him out if not for me but it was me that pulled him out. Poor guy had epilepsy. Quite a day that was.

Teach, Learn, Share

Umm, is this where I talk about being a tutor? I tutored math, chemistry, and biology for a couple years at the community college I went to. I also helped out in a fifth grade classroom helping with math for a year.

If I get this position in The Gambia I'm applying for I'll be doing a lot of teaching about crop science and nutrition. I'm really excited about that. Teaching is super fun, hard but fun :)

Three cheers for public schools! My parents both retired from teaching positions. Those are extremely undervalued professions.
