About Me

My name is Andy, and I love to travel! I was born in Hobart, but I have also lived in Sandkrug, Germany; Texel, Holland; Osaka, Japan; and Buriram, Thailand. Currently I live in Perth, with my partner Natalie. I speak intermediate Japanese.

So far, I have been to about 25 countries (which makes me the baby in my family), but my life goal is to visit all of them - I've got a lot of work to do!

My other passion is snowboarding and skiing, but of course as an Australian I rarely get to do it! We recently went on a trip to South Korea - for people who aren't from a really snowy country, I recommend it (for Canadians - maybe not so much. You have too much good snow!).

Currently I am renting, so I can't offer my couch, but in the future I'm hoping to host other travelers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to meet people from different countries and cultures, and I like the idea of staying with trustworthy and fun people around the world.

Until I have a place that I can host people, I hope to meet other like-minded travelers and help them enjoy their trips.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love watching movies - in particular comedy and action movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled to Papua New Guinea during my University degree to build flood-proof housing in one of the shanty towns near Lao. 4 people of the 11 in my team ended up with Malaria, and we all got very sick of coconuts! It was a very dangerous time to be in the country, but it was a very rewarding experience, and I had a lot of fun! Even though it was quite a long time ago, it is still one of the experiences I remember the most.

Teach, Learn, Share

If anyone is in Perth I can help to recommend interesting things to do, and nice places to go. We have some good wine tours down this way, and if you time it right, we might be able to go out sailing. I'd love to swap stories with other travelers and hear how their couch surfing adventures are going.

In particular, I would love to help out people who speak Japanese, as I rarely get to speak the language any more.

What I Can Share with Hosts

That depends on the host! I love to have a quiet drink, a story, and a laugh; but I'll also try anything out, and love to sing karaoke; play darts; see the sights; or anything at all!

I love wine and cheese, and can put together a pretty good cheese tasting night.

I can also teach you some ridiculous Aussie slang.
