About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To inspire others and create dreams within them...

ABOUT ME

My best friends would say I'm too friendly, footloose, spontaneous, and have a memory for the most strangest facts. I hope they'd say that I was reliable and honest (do I still have some of their DVDs or travel books)? I'm a good host and make the wickedest curries on Earth!

PHILOSOPHY

My grandfather always said, "Observe the Masses - and Do the Opposite"! Which is how I've spent my life, and I've had great fun doing it. I'm also a great believer in reciprocation... or, what you give is what you get... or for the more religious of you; Do unto others what you wish others to do unto thee.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to Couchsurfing, so, I'd like to participate how I did when I lived in Scotland before the internet: through my job there I met many travellers and let them crash out at my home because there was no kind of hostel in my town. I showed them the sights and sounds... and that's what I'd like to do where I live now in Düsseldorf - Germany

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience was mid-May 2012 staying with 2 surfers in Trier, Germany, which was positive and pleasant. I hosted my first 2 surfers early June 2012, Jim and Renie, a wonderful couple. The experience was über-positive and enlightening.

Interests

I love cycling and free-camping in wild and remote places. I love nature and all things natural. I like socialising with friends and meeting people. Düsseldorf is my adopted city and I reckon I've seen more than many locals here, like you do when you move to a new city. So, I have a great knowledge of the city and the surrounding area - therefore, I suppose, I can show you the best this city can offer.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a HUGE video and DVD collection of all the greatest movies of all time (including Dark Star) and all the best British comedy series from the 1960s onwards. Be warned that this includes Monty Python's "Dead Parrott Sketch"! Music? I live in Germany so it has to be classical!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The best thing I did was cycle England to Singapore in a year with 3 friends - the journey was a spectacular part of my life, inspiring, and motivating. The motivation I was buzzing with led me to set up my own language school in Düsseldorf in which I'm now self-sufficient and very happy.

Teach, Learn, Share

I CAN SHARE: My teaching philosophies, all of which were self-taught while on the road. Also my travel philosophies passed down from the wise folk I've met since I did my first world tour in 1986.

I CAN LEARN: Many things! Mainly the esoteric field, forms of spiritual enlightenment, the meaning of life and of love... the list is endless...
