About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Living and enjoying life in south Devon
ABOUT ME
I try to live lightly on this beautiful planet. Following the usual life path of education-job-marriage-kids-mortgage-retire has never really appealed to me. I like to think outside of the box a bit, not way outside but far enough. I still like creature comforts and I do own a house and a car. But there is more to life than chaining yourself to a desk for most of it. So here I am. I work as much as is necessary, travel, experience new and interesting ways of living and thinking, and try to be a happy, caring and pleasant little human being.
I love nature and the great outdoors although I can appreciate the buzz of big cities as well. Like to be active, either through work or play. Love good healthy grub. Meeting fun, like-minded (or not) people is great and good for the soul.
PHILOSOPHY
There is a lot of wisdom out there if you look for it and are discerning. Personally the buddha's teachings work best for me and I try to live my life accordingly.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I finally have my own place again so can host at last!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
All good so far. I surfed from the south of France to Athens a few summers ago and I am now a true convert. I tell everyone about it, I have joined cs groups in Liverpool, London and Totnes, created meetups and made good friends. And now I'm hosting....
Interests
Anything outdoors. Reading a good book, checking out good art (especially post-impressionist), hanging out in cool, funky places, saving the world from greedy, mis-guided fools, eco-building, movies, climbing.......
And I finally became a free-hugger.

Music, Movies, and Books
Indie, foreign, art-house movies generally. Wes Anderson and the Coen brothers for example.
Sounds obvious but if it's good music I'll like it. But then what is good? I like most music and taste ranges from folk through to trance and back again.
Shadows of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon was a damn good book.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing the big redwoods in California was life-changing - gives you a sense of scale. The Grand Canyon is not bad for that too! Climbing Piton de Neige on Reunion Island to watch the sunrise is high on the list. And I just recently went to watch Psycho in the middle of a bombed out church in Liverpool - very cool. Oops! That's more than one
Teach, Learn, Share
I like to show people how to give a good massage or how to treat themselves through reflexology (which, in case you've never heard of it before, is an alternative therapy that treats the whole body by applying pressure to specific points on the feet or hands, a little like acupressure). If you need any building advice, particularly eco-building, then ask away.
