About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Finishing my PhD and then exploring the world
ABOUT ME
I've been hanging out in my hometown for quite sometime now, mostly tied to prolonged education (albeit self-inflicted and enjoyed). Seems like it's about time to start travelling and seeing more of the world around me.
PHILOSOPHY
I was raised by secular parents - I like to keep it that way thanks. People are very important to me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I try to host where I can and have frequented the Auckland group's regular wednesday drinks. I try to take host when I can but I share a house with flatmates so may not be able to take people in depending on how many we've had.

Interests
Films (especially arty ones... or really crap ones esp Steven Seagal's Golden years), Music (I have a soft spot for anything with a good rhythm, I'm a bit tone deaf), Drumming in a band (see statement on music), Learning languages (My brains no longer really plastic but better late than never - at the moment it's German), spending time with loved ones, gruelling activities (hiking and running), learning Capoeira (see statement on gruelling activities and music). Also I like eating, drinking and cooking.

Music, Movies, and Books
I follow a few directors quite closely (Kubrick, Kurosawa, Tarkowsky, Haneke) have a big spot for documentaries (esp Errol Morris). Music is varied Jazz, Soul, IDM electronica stuff, Dub, Funk, the experimental end of Hip-Hop... the link seems to be sounds that are new to me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Swimming in Pelorus Sound at night on new moon. When the nearest light is 15km's away, the illuminating phosphorous is brighter than the stars.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can teach lots about Evolutionary genetics if your keen for it :) Would love to know more about the secret behind your favourite dish.
