About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I've spent my whole life in school and at this point in my life I just want to plummet headfirst into the real world.
ABOUT ME
Born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I love traveling - I'm happiest when I'm seeing new places, meeting new people, learning about their cultures, etc.
The three things I'm the nerdiest about are baseball statistics, Harry Potter, and especially beer. I know entirely too much about beer.
Generally once people get to know me they discover that I am a total space cadet.
PHILOSOPHY
If something frightens me, that's a sign I should try it.
Except heroin.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm about to leave on a trip across Europe. I've never done this before but I'm curious to try and I've heard good things. I'm pretty low-key I think. That's what people tell me at least. Well...generally.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I haven't done any couch surfing through this site yet - I was just turned on to it by my friends Austin and Allana, who have been giving me advice for an upcoming trip I'm taking through Europe, starting on July 8th. I like staying on my friend's couches when I visit places though - I have friends in New York, Portland, and Los Angeles, and wherever I go I tend to get way more out of the experience if I'm staying with somebody. It also tends to reinforce friendships.
Interests
beer, movies, museums, history, photography, culture in general, the history of culture in general, space, physics (in a kind of pop-science kind of way), science in general, baseball, soccer (in an American World-Cup watcher kind of way), philosophy, religion and spirituality, economics, etc. I like long conversations about interesting things, and I like people with different perspectives from me.

Music, Movies, and Books
Pedro Almodovar, Wong Kar-Wei, the Coen brothers, Eternal Sunshine, Lost In Translation, the 400 Blows, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Hanna, P.T. Anderson, Marlon Brando in general, Woody Allen, The Apartment, the Bourne movies, Angels in America, Let the Right One In, The Royal Tenenbaums, Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X...lots of different things, I don't really have any particular type of genre I like the most.
Daft Punk, Yo La Tengo, Emancipator, Iron and Wine, really filthy, fruity house music.
Harry Potter, Yehuda Amichai, the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Autobiography of Red, the Scott Pilgrim comics, Betrayal by Harold Pinter, After the Quake by Haruki Murakami
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My favorite trip was to Cuba and Puerto Rico last summer. Probably the most fascinating things I saw there were the Moncada Barracks and the Basilica of Our Lady of Charity in El Cobre.
The single most powerful moment of the trip, though, was at Playa Soucia in Puerto Rico, where I stood on a cliff at the corner of the Atlantic and the Caribbean. And listened to U2.
It was epic.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach people how to operate a camera, and some of the basic principals of photography and cinematography. I can teach someone the rudimentary flavor profiles, histories, and historical origins of most beer styles. I can retell the entire plot of the Harry Potter series from the first book to the last. This will take several hours and be very boring but I'll do it, whatever.
