About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always wanted to travel and experience the landscape and subculture in other areas, but living on a student's salary with a child made that seem impossible. I'm very excited to give couch surfing a try. Its sounds like the best way to visit an unfamiliar area, not only because it is cheaper but because you get to meet new and (hopefully) wonderful individuals along the way.

Interests

I LOVE to be outdoors. Hiking in woods, canoeing on the river, floating on the lake... Even if I'm at home, I like to spend a lot of time outside in my garden. It's like therapy :)
I also enjoy live theatre, the ballet, symphony, but so far I have not seen an opera I liked. To be fair, I've only seen two operas, so it's likely worth another shot.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like most types of music, although I don't often play it loudly at home. I enjoy my peace and quiet :) I watch little to no TV. I do watch movies on occasion. I am an avid reader. The Red Tent is last book I read. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone. At first it offers an interesting look into the subculture that existed among women thousands of years ago without focusing solely on their low status among society as a whole. Just when you think it's a nice sweet story the plot becomes active and Dinah realizes her worth to the greater world in a harsh way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I don't think I've done anything terribly amazing. I did manage to make it all the way through undergraduate and graduate school as a single mom. But that just requires dedication and planning. The accomplishment I'm most personally proud of is my journey into being content with myself and being happy where I am.
