About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be happy, open, to explore new places and meet new people.

ABOUT ME

I am energetic and fun and love a good conversation. I am also outgoing and friendly and love to laugh but I'm thoughtful and attentive to other people's needs as well.

PHILOSOPHY

When in doubt, do it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Couchsurfing is an ingenious way to meet people. It's not about getting a free place to stay but about meeting local people who can give you insider tips on exploring their city. It's far more interesting to stay in a stranger's place and learn what to do from a local rather than stay in a hotel where an imperious concierge will give you generic info you can find online. I like the unknown. Will the host be helpful? Will I have a private bedroom or just a couch? Will my host ignore me or actually take the time to show me around? It's always a surprising experience but the people I've met have always been exceptionally thoughtful. Who needs a sterile hotel room when you can have your own local tour guide and the surprise of a native home?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new, but so far, the people I've met are phenomenal. I love meeting new people and it's always fun to hear travel stories. It is thrilling to see how generous, flexible, trusting and kind people are.

Interests

I like to cook, explore new places, meet new people and go to the movies. I love taking walks and I also like to read. I am addicted to the New Yorker and the NYT and love discussing their articles. I love Alice Munro and Shakespeare, any writing that's a good story, well told and beautifully rendered.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love small independent films and like writing and reading reviews. I also love celebrity gossip and magazines.
I read a lot of contemporary fiction and news articles and essays.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing things I've ever done (and this was in the 80's) was live on a Bedouin village in the Sinai and hitchhike from Athens (via Albania) to Milan. I've also gone to Wimbledon, an Oxford ball and I once dated a famous French actor. I also slept inside one of the tombs in Abu Simbel and have explored the temples of Petra. I also trekked through the jungles of Borneo and stayed in a longhouse. Besides that, I've raised 2 wonderful daughters, one of whom received a PhD at Oxford, the other who is a lawyer.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like meeting foreigners and hearing their opinion of the US and learning about their culture, language, home, food and traditions.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook, share great travel stories and walk your dogs if needed. I love to garden and can also help you organize closets and drawers.
