CURRENT MISSION
To explore the USA with my husband in the most authentic way. Having worked with Americans for the past 5 years I have met so many individuals who talk about their home state so enthusiastically - it's time to teach ourselves about the cultural diversity of America!
ABOUT ME
Myself and my husband (Joe) are both Welsh, and are currently working in France on luxury hotel barges on the canals. We are planning a 9 week trip the US starting in December!
I have always loved travel in any form, and have a huge to do list of countries I cannot wait to visit! I have never traveled to a Westernised country, so I am looking forward to embracing the common language, efficiency and cleanliness of a country that is not Asian (although I love Asia so dearly!)
Many people describe us as the happiest people they know, a sarcastic friend of ours once looked at us after we'd told a story and said '"Wow, no one should be THAT happy".
We love life, people and new experiences. We both love singing and can play a bit of guitar (not that well!). I love cooking too so would be more than happy to test out my culinary skills on some hosts :)
PHILOSOPHY
This pretty much sums it up:
âA professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous, âYes!â
The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed!!!
âNow,â said the professor, as the laughter subsided, âI want you to recognize that this jar represents your life â The golf balls are the important things: your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions⦠things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else â the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first,â he continued, âthere is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness: play with your children, take your partner out to dinner, do what gives you joy! There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.â
One of the students raised her hand and inquired, âWhat does the beer represent?â The professor smiled. âIâm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, thereâs always room for a couple of beers.â
Что привело меня на Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Have hosted quite a few couchsurfers when I was living in the UK and was able to! I look forward to hosting again in future.
I have really enjoyed hosting couchsurfers - we have become great friends with some of the surfers we have hosted, and it encourages us to really appreciate and take advantage of the area we live when we are hosting.
I couchsurfed in Sri Lanka & India for 4 months where I met some fantastic people and had a truly unique experience with every single host.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing is such an incredible way to travel! These days there are too many options of hotels and apartments where you lock yourself in a hotel room, go out to the places the guide book tells you and have generic experiences. I'm all for the human guide book instead :)
