About Me

I'm Angus. I've recently moved to Oakland, California and I'm learning how to "kick it". It basically seems to consist of lying on the ground with your head resting on someone or something and letting your mind and mouth wander. I spend time at various community gardens near my house where I grow vegetables and I'm also propagating herbs for my friends. I really love plants, being around them and nurturing them. If I got reincarnated as a tree I wouldn't be sad.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been on couchsurfing for a long time, I've surfed over India, Morocco, USA and Europe and hosted in both Scotland and England. I guess I first got on it as a way to expand my lifestyle that was already based on couchsurfing, just through friends and friends of friends. It's been such an awesome way to make more friends too though.

Interests

Bicycling, trying to fix bicycles, plants, making fires and talking late into the night, wandering 'round (and getting lost in) cities/mountains/deserts/grasslands, reading, fire-spinning, microscopy, sculpture .

Music, Movies, and Books

I like films that play with my mind

Music that warps my body and emotions

And books should always show you another way of thinking

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Looked through a microscope. Wow. Was once looking at these plant cells and you could see all the parts of the cell moving around inside and flowing between cells. And then you think this is happening ALL AROUND, ALL THE TIME.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to open oysters and swear in Hungarian. I'm trying to learn Urdu right now but it's very slow going.

Sharing: the best thing to share is food; let's share food! We've (me and my tapeworm) always lived next to the sea and I like doing things with seafood, I can cook you some of that. Or if you're vegan I can do things with cous cous you wouldn't believe.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can do you a fire spinning performance.

Or I can sing badly.

Or I tell pretty good campfire stories. Got a few ghost stories too, but they only really work when you're way out in the hills.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom, United States
