Overview
About Me
I'm an easy-going open-minded gal, who enjoys meeting interesting people and learning new things. I was born in Slovenia, but grew up into a bit of a global nomad, who's managed to live in four different countries over the past year.
Currently I'm a graduate student at the University of Edinburgh, where I'm doing a PhD on the topic of religious change in Indian diaspora and when I have some time off reading and writing I like to photograph, sing and/or listen to music, learn ukulele, do origami, practice some yoga, and of course travel! I've already visited five continents, seen thirty countries, and set foot in fifty different states and territories.
When I'm not traveling physically I like to do so mentally – my work forces me to travel in my mind and try to put myself in the shoes of many other people. My brain has therefore become a depository of random information I'd be happy to share – anything from how to anchor a boat, bargain for a rickshaw in Gujarati, and find the cheapest plane ticket, to how to read Durkheim, make a proper cup of tea, and which apps are absolutely indispensable. Sure, we can discuss my PhD on religious change in diaspora, my overly-used Netflix account, or my adventurous travel stories as well :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For me travelling is all about meeting new people and getting to know a place though the eyes of a local. Taking your time and exploring something up close.
So I say 'no' to overcrowded party hostels and soulless hotels, and an enthusiastic 'yes' to all the kind hosts willing to welcome me in their homes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just one?? No way! Here's a couple:
Lived and traveled through India by myself, cut my long hair into a pixie cut, was hosted by a butcher's family in Sicily (Italy), watched a buffalo cross the road in front of us at Yellowstone NP (USA), watched orcas in their natural environment in British Columbia (Canada), built a surfboard with my dad in our basement, was extorted by a monkey on Bali (Indonesia), drank beer with a Slovenian family in Buenos Aires (Argentina), tried a snail in Marrakech (Morocco), won a choir competition in Dublin (Ireland), walked around Berlin (Germany) at -17*C, swam in the Dead Sea (Jordan), and I'm still adding to the list.
Teach, Learn, Share
Want to know something about anthropology, Jainism, or South Asia? How 'bout tea, sailing, yoga, or singing? Maybe simple survival is more up your alley? Done!
In exchange, I wouldn't mind learning a little bit about your city, life experiences, and how to live a life full of discovery and joy.
What I Can Share with Hosts
PDFs, lots of PDFs... And advice on academia, traveling, organisation, and creativity. If you prefer something more tangible, I can bring a nice tea or two for you to try. Or a cool origami!
