About Me

I am enthusiastic and ridiculous, and always looking for an adventure.

I like to learn things, to walk barefoot, and I wish I could fly (like a bird).

My current mission is express gratitude on a daily basis and to improve my Spanish!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love talking to open-minded people! Hosting lets me live vicariously through others, and I really value connecting with locals when traveling. Even if I can't host, I'd love to meet up!

Interests

I greatly enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, canoeing and sailing. And playing ultimate. Yoga and meditation always makes me feel better, especially when done outdoors.

I get really really excited about biology... Especially the big-picture, evolution and ecology kind of stuff. (I'm pretty terrible at cell bio.) Actually, I find most of the sciences (and really most disciplines) fascinating in their own way.

Also baking! It's like science for hungry people.

Music, Movies, and Books

December is pretty much dedicated to Christmas music. Other than that, I've recently been listening to electroswing, old school hip hop and acoustic/alternative/post/prog rock. I'm slowly getting into classical (mostly Baroque) music. Video game music brings on some serious nostalgia (and is usually good for productivity).

Movies are pretty sweet; I really enjoy old (and new) Disney films, classics like The Princess Bride, The Blues Brothers and delightful ones like Stardust and Singin' in the Rain.

I typically enjoy fantasy/sci-fi, a range of non-fiction and Austen is my not-guilty pleasure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Biking out of Amsterdam, along the river Amstel and into the countryside was simply stunning. The landscape was flat as the Canadian prairies, but the green and the animals and the quaint country homes were very new to me.

Perhaps living (mostly) out of a van for about 3 months while traveling through the states.

I spent a few months backpacking through south-east Asia, almost exclusively by hitchhiking and couchsurfing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure how qualified I am for any of these, but

-I taught a few people how to throw frisbees forward-hand (which looks and feels super cool)!
-I can teach you to make friendship bracelets in 5 minutes or less
-I can help you appreciate the beauty and wonder of simple things in life, wherever you are

I want to learn whatever you will teach me, especially about tying knots, cooking and traveling light. I'm also learning Spanish so I'd love help with that!
