About Me

A little bit about me, lets do this. I was born and raised in Te Awamutu, New Zealand (on a Dairy Farm of all places). For some strange reason after the most amazing childhood and adolescence, I decided I wanted to complete my Undergraduate Degree elsewhere (that, and I wanted to pursue athletics). Never the less, I ended up attending College of the Siskiyous, a little school in located in Northern California, USA. After two years there I was lucky enough to accept a full athletic scholarship to the University of Nevada, Reno for Women's Basketball. After graduating this past May, I have accepted a place in the Collaborative Biomedical Engineering Master's Program located in Luebeck, Germany. I made the decision to complete my Masters in Germany because my naive mind thought I would be able to indulge my love of travel whilst living the life of a poor student...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

If my "About Me" section did not give it away. I am couch surfing because I am obsessed with travel and, in my naivety, decided it would be easy to complete my Masters and afford to travel. Couchsurfing appears to be an official site dedicated to people doing what I already love to do. Almost all of my travel throughout the US has been via this method, staying with a Friend-of-a-friend or a friend's family member-- the further I travel the more obscure the hosts relationship becomes. Staying with a local is the best way to explore a culture and a place, plus you are lucky enough to experience a snapshot of someone else's way of life.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all music so long as I can make out the words and can relate; most of my music tends to be Folksy, sad or slow (so I have been informed). My choice of books varies between two extremes-- Science-Fiction Fantasy, give me all those imaginary creatures, or hard-hitting, inspirational, life coaching books/ biographies. Movies... make me laugh or cry, or better yet both, and you have a winner.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My version of amazing, may be odd to others. I have hiked Clouds Rest at Yosemite to watch the dawn, I have jumped off ocean cliffs in Niue-- but one of my favorite memories is when me and an extended group of friends left the typical US college party and took our cars off-roading to the mountains, we broke out the loudspeakers and cranked up the oldies, dancing until early morning overlooking the city lights. I think its always a mix of the right people, and the right place which make for my most amazing memories.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you sports (skills, rules, technique)! I have played Basketball for 8 years, 4 years at University in the US, Tennis, Table Tennis, Weight lifting routines, Netball (it's a New Zealand sport), Beer Pong, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding? I can show you how to do them all, you pick a sport and i'll guide you through the technique.

Teach me your perspective. There are things you can not learn in school or by staying put. The only way I can ever hope to broaden my own perspective is by understanding the perspective of others.

I can share travelling tips. I know how to get served faster on a plane, and what essentials to pack and how to pack. Thinking of travelling to the US or NZ in the future? I can provide contacts, and places to visit.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have experience roofing, laying wood floors and a small amount of carpentry, along with Gardening, lawn mowing, weeding gardens, house sitting and baby sitting, cleaning and cooking. You name it, I have probably done it during my travels. If you need help with your house, or keeping up with day-to-day tasks, allow me to help out while I stay.
