Overview
About Me
I grew up in a tiny little village in Bavaria and moved to Nuremberg and later Fürth for studying English and Spanish at the university of Erlangen. One week ago I also started studying in Kassel simultaneously.
I love plants, my balcony looks more like a garden or a jungle, I even have some really big trees and grow vegetables. I need nature to survive, I couldn't be without a garden or a huge balcony and when I am in a city I am looking for even the smallest green bits.
I also love drawing and painting though I don't really think I am very talented. Wherever I am, I always have my sketchbook with me and try to capture the way I see the world around me. Oh and cats, I love cats! I've got 3 very cute ones, that I miss an awful lot when I am not at home. My boyfriend and I also work as catsitters.
Apart from caring about cats, I teach English at an elementary school and linguistics at university.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have always dreamt about teaching Arts as a third subject, which is why I decided to leave Bavaria. In a few months, I am going to take placement exams in several art universities in Hessen and I am already studying at two universities now, my old one in Erlangen and the university of Kassel at the same time. It is a very challenging time for me, I am currently commuting between the two cities twice a week.
I am actually a person who hates changes. It is very hard for me and a big step to move away for studying and working. I don't know Kassel at all, nor the surrounding villages or cities, and I would love to meet people who are living there. I want to be able to see the area around Kassel as my new home. I am also already looking for a flat for this summer. Until then I hope to make some friends, get to know some places and no longer feel foreign and lost in the city.
Music, Movies, and Books
I play the bass guitar in a band. I am very much into metal music of different styles. I am also screaming/shouting/growling and still looking for a second band where I can "sing" only.
My favourite movie is definitely Lord of the Rings (and the Hobbit) which I have watched over and over again since my childhood. In the last few years I've been so busy studying and working that I couldn't really find any time for reading, which I also loved as a child.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've been to Lanzarote for 4 months to improve my Spanish skills. I worked in a small hotel next to the beach. It was a really hard time for I had a 13-hour working day and I didn't learn any Spanish there...there were only German and British tourists. But I got one day off, rent a car and discovered the island on my own. It was a great experience. Afterwards, I started strolling around the island at night, after work, never having a map with me or any idea were I was going. I just kept walking until I found something that looked familiar and helped me to get back to the hotel, sometimes I had to ask people for the way. It was both frightening and exciting to know that nobody knew (or cared) where I was and it was always an indescribable feeling when - after hours - I finally got back again.
