About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning spanish, poi (without fire) and collecting stamps .. in my passport

ABOUT ME

I love to travel and immerse myself in new cultures and cuisines, getting to know a place a few layers beneath the typical tourist trail. I am a freelance interpreter and absolutely love my job .. because of it I find myself in some amazing places and meet the loveliest of people and for that I am truly lucky.

PHILOSOPHY

Simple. One life. No rehearsal. Live it and fill it full to the brim with love life and laughter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a newbie to planet CS, but not a newbie to hosting friends and family wherever I may be residing. I have lived in a variety of places across the UK, Turkey, Cyprus and Spain and my hat is currently searching for a new place to rest and call home. I have always enjoyed an open house mentality and love it when friends feel they can turn up and make themselves feel at home .. always good to turn up with a carton of milk if you fancy a cuppa, or something stronger if it's that time of day :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am currently looking for CS adventures through France, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium as I drive from Spain to England (yes it's a weird route!) at the beginning of October in my 15year old car .. wish me luck, or even better, offer me a couch and a cuppa .. and a long walk to stretch my legs! :)

Interests

I love being outdoors with nature, particularly in the mountains. At the other end of the spectrum throw me into the tantalising turmoil of Bangkok or Hanoi and I'll embrace the overwhelming journey my senses find themselves being bombarded with! I love to scuba dive when I can, although still consider myself a relative newbie and am still fastidious about keeping my log book updated! Whilst sitting (relatively) still, I love reading, theatre, music and a good movie. Nothing better than slurping on a glass of fabulously squashed grape and shooting the breeze.

Music, Movies, and Books

Recent favourite read.. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. Currently reading Driving Over Lemons by Chris Stewart

For a delightful little travel read check out: Wind in my wheels by Josie Dew and The hotel on the roof of the world: 5 years in Tibet, by Alec le Sueur.

Latest Movie - Nebraska. Loved it. Also, a massive fan of Breaking Bad

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Whilst in Mexico, specifically on the Yukatan peninsular in Tulum, we were taking a late night stroll along the beach. My senses were in heaven, with the waves lapping at the shore, the stars twinkling in the sky and sand between my toes. We then spotted turtle tracks coming out from the sea and were lucky enough to meet two beach rangers recording turtle activity .. they allowed us to watch the female turtle laying her eggs up close and personal under an infra red torch so as not to disturb her. Breath taking and phenomenal.

Teach, Learn, Share

I taught a wonderful friend of mine recently to poach an egg. She is an amazing cook and I was genuinely blown away that I was able to step up to the hob and show her something new in the kitchen .. it made my day! Anyone else wishing to learn this basic yet scrumptious skill please step forward :)

A useful and eggcellent fact: If you're not sure if your eggs are out of date ... pop them in a glass/bowl of water. If they float to the surface, do not consume as they are bad!
