About Me

I was born in Cleveland, grew up on a farm in rural Virginia, went to high school outside of Boston and currently live in Harlem, NY. I worked in reproductive justice (think Planned Parenthood) before I started traveling, but my quarter-life crisis led me to choose exploring over grad school.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first co-hosted two guys in East Hampton with my cousin in 2012, and we remain close friends to this day. I've met up with couchsurfers in Turkey, Romania, Croatia, and the US, and have had only positive experiences.

Also, sometimes I wonder if I love traveling or if I just love talking to people with different experiences than my own.

Interests

I grew up in the country but live in Manhattan, so I love the extremes, and feel equally comfortable in a tiny village or a major city.

I get to know new places by walking around and getting lost, sitting at cafes, or going for a run.

I also live to eat, and trying new food is a big part of anywhere I go. I'm a big fan of wine, whiskey, and beer. Getting more into rum.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music depends on the place. I don't listen to much bluegrass in NY, and not much trap in VA.

I am in a total horror movie phase at the moment.

I should be reading more fiction, but keep getting sucked into depressing non-fiction like Dark Money and This Changes Everything or The Shock Doctrine. Please help.

Teach, Learn, Share

I always want to learn about people's pasts, their lives, their interests, their fears, the political systems/situations in their countries. And as an American who loves her country but is critical of certain parts, I will always entertain questions and criticisms because I know a lot of people are curious and sometimes Americans refuse to discuss sensitive topics.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I cook; I clean; I am endlessly social. Sometimes I sing and pretend I can play guitar.
