About Me

Hello!
I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and this is where I live most of the time.
By education, I'm an orientalist. If you don't know what exactly it means, it's totally O.K., this is just a smart word meaning I adore everything related to Asia. Also, that means that I'm expected to know a couple of frighteningly difficult languages with incomprehensible insect-looking scribbles instead of letters (and, well, that's true to some extent). When I was about 13 y/o I fell in love with anime and Japanese culture, and still haven't been cured of this disease. Now I work in a publishing house that mostly deals with manga and comic books, and that makes me kinda a professional geek I guess?.. Long story short, if you wanna talk about character development in Sailor Moon or ninja techniques in Naruto, feel free.
Also, I write some stories and trying to become a professional writer (please don't make fun of me, be gentle).
But I do not talk about my job and my books 24/7, really. I mention it only because I want you to have a more detailed portrait of me.

Quite a commonplace, but I love traveling - exploring new countries, sharing different ways of living, meeting new people and learning something new (even if it means getting into awkward situations and unexpected adventures). Like all of you, right? I'd love to tell about my trips and to listen to your stories because that's exactly why we're all here.

Also, I love capturing the beauty of the world in photos. I have some experience of being on both sides of the lens - both as a photographer and as a model. Not really a professional but pretty good at this thing (even have earned some money for my photos a couple of times). And YES I can make some nice photos of you if you want.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

That's funny but a lot of people learning foreign languages don't believe that thing actually works. They don't even believe all these countries on the geographical map that we learned in school are real. Well, in theory, they admit that all these things exist (otherwise it is a mental disorder), but you know, it's hard to BELIEVE in things like that when you didn't see anything but your hometown.
I still remember the shock and great joy when I went abroad for the first time and realized that the world is actually very big and exciting (just as it is in books or movies, lol). And people all over the world are incredibly different and beautiful and amazing.
This feeling returns to me from time to time with a new force, and I feel it most strongly when I'm not just a tourist but interact with people and learn some cool things about the country, trying to understand its way of thinking and to immerse myself in a different culture.
Well, I think all of you understand what I'm talking about. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

If you have a crush on languages (as I do), I'll teach you to swear in Russian or write your name in hieroglyphs. If you don't, I can just bring you some tasty things from my country (and this is not only vodka, by the way). Or make a couple of nice photos of you. And - the last but not the least - of course couchserfing is a good opportunity to share our experience, to practice languages and even to make new friends.
