About Me

Howdy! I am a fun, smart, and healthy woman living in the Southeast of the United States. I started traveling after college and lived in Central America for 2 years teaching English in Elementary Schools. Since then, I have continued to see the world piece by piece. I love reading, swing dancing, cooking, plants, and doing good work in my community. Really, I love seeing the world, and I love coming home.

Fun facts: I have a collection of upright typewriters and one year I made a Halloween costume to match. I taught myself to swim by humming Amazing Grace under the water (it could have been anything really, but that was the song I had stuck in my head at the time). I don’t drink. I love tea. My boyfriend has seven cars, from the 1960s thru 80s, which he is proud to fix up and keep as daily drivers; meanwhile I would rather never drive a car again, if I had my druthers. Together we have a shared dog named Tucker. He is a dope.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love connecting with people, having adventures, and being a homebody all at the same time. I lived abroad for several years in Central America about a decade ago, and since then have had to squeeze travel in between my jobby job. I find that the connections and relationships which matter most are those which go deeper than a guidebook.

Interests

I adore swing dancing, list making, classic vintage style, smart conversations, letter writing, costumes, themes, healthy food, reading, and doing good work in the world. I try to do as much volunteer work as I do "paid" work, because I find it gratifying. I do not love adrenaline, but I do like endorphins. I like to plan things, but am also open to adventure, if the connection is right. I am generally early to bed and early to rise, unless I stay out all night swing dancing. I don't drink caffeine, and I can't have an intelligent conversation about films, unless they were released prior to 1950. Even then, it's is spotty.

Music, Movies, and Books

My most *recent* favorite books include The Handmaid's Tale, Go Set a Watchman, and Code Name Verity.

My musical tastes include everything from traditional jazz (for dancing!) to honky tonk, to singer songwriters. For example: Gnarley Parker, Tuba Skinny, and Daniel Romano. Haven't heard of them? Well, go check them out.

I don't tend to watch movies very much, but some of my all-time favorites include Scott Pilgrim and Breakfast at Tiffany's.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am a three-time participant in NaNoWriMo wherein one writes a novel. In month. It's pretty badass.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to help out around the house. Although I am not very handy with house-type projects, I am very good at tidying and organizing. Also, I do love little crafty endeavors. I am happy to offer money for hosts and I'd love to share a little bit about my life and thoughts on the world.
