About Me
Hi there I am Annabelle/ Annie, and I am travelling India for the next six months. Here's a bit about me:
I am from England, UK, and have lived in Oxfordshire, Bath and Bristol. I have a BSc in Global Development and Sustainability which I hope to focus my future career and research on. Since studying, I worked for a year in a blood bank to save up money for travelling. If you host me, you can expect blood-related fun facts on tap if you so wish.
So far in my year of travelling, I have spent three months camping in rural Nepal, working for a disaster response charity that rebuilds schools destroyed in the 2015 earthquakes. I have eaten local food, taught English to children and masons, learned some Nepali and engaged in the communal and open way of living that the village welcomes.
My next step is India. I am open to seeing the 'must-sees', but largely want to spend my time meeting new people, trying new experiences, foods and traditions, and devoting my time to charities that I share values with.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm much more interested in a local's perspective of a place than the view from the eyes of a tourist. I want to visit a country and feel like I am connecting and making friends with people who live there.
I'm also hoping to engage in some volunteering for local charities, if I am lucky enough to have somewhere accept me, and I figure local people could be more likely to help me identify organisations. I want to apply aspects of my degree out in places where it is most useful, and also gain more practical skills relating to sustainability, water and food security, sanitation and hygiene initiatives, disaster relief and climate change.
