CURRENT MISSION
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always got before
ABOUT ME
I am a Dutch girl living in Belgium, and I hope to combine best of both worlds in myself: I am very open to the world and other people, and enjoy the good things in life very much! I love to chat about random things, but also about philosophy, literature or politics, and I often find both random and serious topics go together in conversations which I would designate to be 'typically Anna'.
I am really into going for drinks and out for dinner, but I am not a party animal, though then again, I love to go out dancing till day light from time to time. Besides being social, I also value some time on my own, to read (both prose and poetry, non-fiction, philosophy, anything, though poetry is really my thing) or to just be on my own.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have never had any couch surfing experience, but my friends have and love it. They really got me excited! But I must say I have always liked to meet new people and show them around my town--I feel like Gent is my town, and I am proud of it. Having been abroad myself (I went to college in the United States a couple years ago) I know what it's like when local people help you explore the area, and that's something I'd like to return to other people.

Music, Movies, and Books
Wow, this is hard... About books: I LOVE to read and do so a lot.. Here are a couple of my favorites, in random order:
Pascal Mercier - Nachtzug nach Lissabon/ Nighttrain to Lisbon
Moshin Hamid - The Reluctant Fundamentalist
Simone de Beauvoir - The Second Sex
Sylvia Plath - The Bell Jar
Thomas Mann - Death in Venice
Virginia Woolf - To the Lighthouse
I like to listen to music but I am not really into it. Right now I am listening to the Messiah by Haendel, but I also like piano music by Keith Jarrett, funky/jazzy French songs by Paris Combo, some Dutch music, some tango music, Dave Matthews Band (all time favorite), but then also loungey stuff... Anything really...
I don't go to the movies very often, but I recently saw The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, which I thought was absolutely impressive. Some others: Un long dimanche de fiancailles, Notes on a Scandal, Das Leben der Anderen.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can help out with Dutch stuff, and I have fair knowledge of contemporary Dutch poetry.
