Overview
About Me
I am just another human infected with the travel bug.
I am getting ready to move again so I will be unable to host.
I currently live in Virginia Beach for work. This is the sixth place I have moved to in two years. I moved from Hattiesburg, MS to the Hague, Netherlands, to Nashville, TN to Dallas, TX, to Marino, Italy and now to Virginia Beach. When I lived in the Netherlands, I was able to travel to 16 countries and 33 cities while completing my undergraduate degrees in English, Communication Studies, and Anthropology. I am currently completing my Masters of Arts in Humanities where I am concentrating on Literature. Since I just started working on my thesis, I am oftentimes bunkered in coffee shops and secluded corners to read, write, and translate various articles.
In 2013, I started a tradition where I travel north for the New Year's holiday. I plan to keep this tradition to explore the United States more as well as take a much-needed break from the southern heat.
I just recently moved back to the US from Italy and am currently settled in Virginia Beach for the year. I have a couch and sleeping bag available for use. There also is plenty of space for an inflatable mattress if you have one. I am currently a foster parent for a local animal shelter so I may have a dog or cat in the apartment when you visit. I'll let you know who I have staying with me if I am able to host you.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet people and be able to see the world on a student's budget. To gain a local's perspective and not just see the tourist sites. To prove that not all strangers you meet on the internet are dangerous.
I have enjoyed my few Couchsurfing experiences as well as my opportunities to host other travellers. There's nothing like a local's perspective to improve your experience. Great friendships can even develop from it.
Interests
Literature, languages, culture, nature, hiking, cycling, kayaking, camping, climbing trees, cooking...
This list could go on for awhile...
I eat and cook primarily vegetarian/ vegan but will eat seafood occasionally (I come from a Cajun family who will disown me if I do not).

Music, Movies, and Books
I listen more to folk and indie but am always open to being introduced to new genres and bands.
I am uncultured in films as I grew up with chick flicks and Disney so I enjoy watching different genres, especially independent and experimental ones. Two of my current favorites are Electrik Children and Everything Before Us.
I prefer postmodern lit but (mostly) enjoy the full spectrum of genres. Two of my current favorite books are The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde and Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami. I am currently on a South American Lit kick and really enjoying Bolano and Cortazar. I am open to all suggestions but have currently banned myself from bookstores as I recently bought 47 books at a clearance sale...
If you have any suggestions for bands, books, and/or films, let me know!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have somehow managed to move to Europe twice without much notice.
Teach, Learn, Share
I guess we won't know till we meet.
