About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm an elementary school teacher, single mom and French language enthusiast. My son is going into the French immersion program in the fall. I'd like him to start realizing it is more than just a language taught in a classroom.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'd like my family to experience different countries and cultures. And my own country. That starts with the people. Couch surfing makes it possible to do that.

Interests

I like alternative movies, cooking with seasonal produce, chocolate, wine, books, taking my son to soccer practice and enjoying the people, and events, in my awesome neighbourhood.

Music, Movies, and Books

I just go to the alternative local movie theatre, when I can. I love every movie that it shows. I currently belong to a book club. The favourite book so far is The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. It is a fun, light read; yet it inspired a spirited discussion :)
Live music is my favourite. I can never remember the name of the bands. I do remember one Blues band. Daddy Long Legs is a favourite to go see.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I studied French in Quebec for a summer and then stayed to work on Artist's Alley. I was completely broke; but young enough to carry on, oblivious to the risks.
Then, I somehow ended up in Halifax for my brother's wedding.
I brought him a picture from Artist's Alley and promptly left his gift in the taxi. :)
Great time and great people.

Teach, Learn, Share

Waterloo is a wonderful mix of the old and the new. We are a technological hub with the Perimeter Institute (home of the BlackBerry), University of Waterloo and Laurier. I live walking distance from all these places.
We also live side by side with old and new order Minnonites. It is normal to share the road with a family in a horse and buggy. You can visit and purchase produce from their farms or from road side vendors. They are experts on sustainable agriculture.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my interest in cooking with my hosts if they'd like me to. I am always interested in how other people live their lives. I can also respect a person's privacy and carry on independently with my visit.
