To meet new people and to see the world through different eyes. One gets to see places in a completely different perspective with the help of locals instead of just depending on guide books and maps... and one gets to hear the different stories and memories as well!

Movies: Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders), I am Dina, Nymphomaniac, Dogville, Dancer in the Dark, 8 (Fellini), Boyhood, Whiplash, Fight Club....

Books: Finnish science fiction (such as Johanna Sinisalo), some fantasy .. Well, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett... oh and one of the best books I've recently read was "As if I am not there" by Slavenka Drakulić!

Spending 2,5 months in South Africa studying and making documentary films was awesome :)
