About Me

Kind, honest, reliable, helpful. I've always been a bit of a hippy , dating from the 60's. Love to grow my own food, self sufficiency in general, anything to do with the environment. Taught Horticulture and Conservation/ Land Management for 30 years at tech college, now retired.
Keith and I have both been very active in sustainability movement. Keith has worked as a home energy assessor after 38 years of teaching high school in Design & Technology and Photography.

We have recently moved from Perth to Albany on south coast of Western Australia and am totally blown away by the amazing coastal scenery and wildflowers. Keith and I share our beautiful 3 acre property with Gabbi the old dog, 9 very spoilt chickens, many native birds and countless motor bike frogs. We have a cosy house, gorgeous gardens and a separate quirky studio for visitors.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We both love to host people and make friends from around the world sharing with them the beautiful place we live and taking you to some wonderful and little known places . We know how special it is to meet local people when traveling and this seems the best way to do it. We think that Couchsurfing is a brilliant way to give and receive, "what goes around also tends to comes around". We find the people we host and stay with tend to be open and generous.

Interests

For me anything to do with the environment- bushwalking, botanising, camping, sustainability, gardening.
Keith enjoys the arts, tennis, bike riding, building with recycled materials, camping and bushwalking.
We both love animals and like to be involved in our local community, browsing charity shops. We are interested in social justice and world politics and enjoy meeting people from different walks of life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Whale watching at Point Ann in WA . It is a whale nursery area where mother whales come to calf and also bring their young each year to shelter from winter storms. We camped next to the beach in the full moonlight and listened to the whales talking to their calves all night.
For Keith it was bungy jumping in NZ and visiting Everest Base Camp in 1976.

Teach, Learn, Share

Conversation over tea, coffee or wine.
Share tips on growing food and chicken rearing.
Share funny stories about traveling in out of the way places, and yes, before social media.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Love of the outdoors, local knowledge, wildflower experience. Can pick up from bus drop off in Albany. Where we live is 9km out of Albany
Gorgeous quirky studio separate from house. Peace and tranquility, relax in the hammock, sit on the verandah and watch the abundant birdlife, see kangaroos at dusk, listen to the motor bike frogs. Freedom to roam our 3 acre property.
